The scope of this Call of Expressions of Interest is to build a Roster of qualified personnel
(internal or external to FAO)
 
Organizational Setting
 
FAO’s Nutrition and Food Systems Division (ESN) assists Member Countries to improve diets and raise levels of nutrition, as well as support with appropriate policies, strategies and methodologies for improving the efficiency and inclusiveness of their food and agricultural systems. As a knowledge leader, areas addressed include support on nutrition-sensitive food and agriculture policies and programmes, including in emergencies and protracted crises. FAO is committed to support Member Countries in their efforts to improve nutritional outcomes as stated in the Rome Declaration on Nutrition (November 2014) and to mainstream nutrition into FAO’s strategic objectives (SO’s).
The Emergency and Resilience Division (PSE) is responsible for ensuring FAO’s efforts to support countries and partners in preparing for and effectively responding to food and agricultural threats and crises. It coordinates the development and maintenance of corporate tools and standards to enable decentralized offices to assist member countries to prepare for, and respond to emergencies, including for nutrition outcomes. PSE plays a major role in the development and leadership of the Organization’s programme to increase the resilience of livelihoods to food and agriculture threats and crises (SO5).
 
FAO International Consultants and Call purpose
 
The objective of the Call is to attract suitable individuals to undertake a consultancy to support the overall design and implementation of nutrition-sensitive food and agriculture programme along with analytical work in different regions. Individuals meeting or exceeding the requirements of the Call will be included in the Divisional Specialists Roster. Candidates who are registered in the Roster are available for consideration whenever relevant opportunities arise
 
Reporting Lines
 
The Consultant reports to the responsible officer at HQ, regional or country level (according to assignment), with technical guidance from ESN and PSE as applicable.
 
Technical Focus
 
Technical support to nutrition-sensitive food and agriculture programme and analysis.
 
Tasks and responsibilities
 
The generic functions include, but are not limited to, the following\: 
  • Liaise with the FAO decentralized offices to design and support the implementation of nutrition-sensitive food and agriculture programmes in emergencies and resilience building contexts;
  • Lead the elaboration of knowledge products such as country studies, briefs and reports;
  • Provide technical support to nutrition related analyses and tools at global, regional and country levels;
  • Contribute to the elaboration of capacity building materials and trainings on integrating nutrition in resilience and emergency projects;
  • Perform other duties as required.
 
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
 
 
Minimum Requirements
  • Advanced university degree for in Nutrition, Food Science, Social Sciences, Agronomy or related sub-fields.
  • At least 1 year (Category C), 5 years (Category B) or 12 years (Category A) of experience in nutrition related programming, analytical work or capacity building.
  • Working knowledge of English, French, Arabic or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other three or Chinese, Russian would be an asset.

Selection Criteria
  • Excellent knowledge of nutrition-sensitive programing;
  • Experience of field projects in protracted crises and emergency response;
  • Knowledge of food and agriculture programmes;
  • Knowledge of analytical frameworks relevant to nutrition;
  • Demonstrated writing and reporting skills;
  • Experience in training and capacity development would be an asset.
