The mission of the Green Climate Fund is to assist developing countries to respond to climate change while bringing prosperity to their peoples.
Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global climate action and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low-emission and climate-resilient societies.It is country-driven and undertakes actions which reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its national aspirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
Since its establishment, the GCF has mobilized 10.3 billion USD, accredited 75 entities to channel its resources and approved 93 funding proposals for a total investment from the GCF of over $4.6 billion. In addition, the decision has just been made to launch the first replenishment of the Fund.

Internship Assignment
The role of the GCF’s Knowledge Management (KM) is to establish a Knowledge Management System (KMS), run effective KM practices as called by the GCF’s Governing Instrument, and inform the GCF’s policies with lessons learned and best practices. The GCF’s KM is also responsible of capturing, abstracting, categorizing and disseminating the Fund’s information to its wide array of key stakeholders, and for promoting peer-to-peer knowledge sharing among its key stakeholders (Countries, Accredited Entities, Civil Society Organisations, etc.). In this regard, the GCF aims to establish an “Online Marketplace of capacity building, and projects/programmes ideas”, through the Direct Climate Action Platform (DCAP).
The intern will be exposed to hands on experience and climate change policy issues during their assignment at the Fund. Under the supervision of the Knowledge Manager, the intern is expected to provide GCF with evidence-based research on how DCAP platform can be a forum for developing countries to improve their technical capacity in developing country programmes, and designing climate projects and programmes. The intern is also expected to conduct research on best practices, lessons learned from other organizations and KM related techniques and innovations. He/she will also be responsible of supporting the development of guidelines and internal documents on knowledge capture, knowledge sharing and other day-to-day activities, as requested by the KM team.
The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for skilled, dedicated and highly motivated candidates from recognized universities to contribute in assisting countries to respond to climate change while building climate-resilient societies. In addition, this assignment will help interns gain new and challenging learning experience in a dynamic environment filled with vibrant initiatives and will enable them to deliver useful policy analysis at the end of their term.
Duties and responsibilities
The intern is expected to:
- Conduct evidence-based research on how DCAP Platform can improve the technical capacity of developing countries in designing climate initiatives, projects and programmes;
- Develop and propose stakeholder engagement strategy for DCAP Platform;
- Contribute to the team’s knowledge base with research on best practices and lessons from other organizations, including on knowledge identification, capture, storage and dissemination techniques and tools;
- Draft proposals on GCF’s internal and external learning opportunities and incentive structures;
- Facilitate the development of online surveys and interview questions on KM practices, gaps and needs, among internal and external stakeholders; including the analysis and reporting of results;
- Participate in complex data collection, analysis and classification to support the Fund’s processes, knowledge repositories including the development of a taxonomy and mind maps for tacit and explicit knowledge categorization;
- Provide support to the development of guidelines, administrative instructions and policies on knowledge management related matters; and
- Other relevant tasks as needed for the Office of the Executive Director, assigned by the Knowledge Manager.
Requirements and qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Master of Public Policy or in a Master of Public Administration;
- Excellent and creative design skills; knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator and/or other applications is an advantage;
- Proficiency in using standard software programs: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access;
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and presentation skills; knowledge of creative presentation software/platforms is an advantage;
- Good understanding of knowledge management and climate finance is an advantage; and
- Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of another United Nations language is an advantage.
