Background

For more than 40 years, UNDP has been supporting the Maldivian people in areas such as the alleviation of poverty, democratic transition, environment protection, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and recovery from natural disasters.

In order to support our Programme units, UNDP is looking to engage the services of a translator who will be employed on a Long-Term Agreement basis for 1 year initially.

Notes

Consultant(s) commissioned by the UNDP is expected to observe UN security recommendations. UNDP cannot provide insurance for any damage to the consultant(s) equipment or personal injury experienced during an assignment.

No consultant(s) should incur expenses without express authorization from UNDP. UNDP will not be responsible for penalties and charges incurred without authorization.

Objective

The overall objective of having a Translator on an LTA basis is to have the translation services available to UNDP Maldives office as and when required without engaging time to advertise for these services.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work

  • UNDP documents translated from English to Dhivehi and vice versa as and when requested by UNDP, within a timeframe agreed to by UNDP.
  • Necessary translation services made readily available to UNDP Maldives as and when required, within a timeframe agreed to by UNDP.

Deliverables

Translating the required documents from English to Dhivehi or Dhivehi to English.

Duration/Validity:  1 year with possibility of extension

Critical Success Factors

It is expected that the consultant who will be engaged with the UNDP Translation services to adhere the following values:

  • Demonstrate integrity by modelling the UN Values and Ethics Standards;
  • Helps promote the vision, mission and strategic goals of UNDP ;
  • To deliver the handed document translated to UNDP within the agreed date from the handover of the documents;

Payment Modality

Payments will be made upon satisfactory achieved deliverables under each assignment and submission of time sheet in accordance with the translation work completed. All payments are subject to the clearance and approval of the direct supervisor. Final payment shall require a signed performance evaluation of the consultant.

Scope of the financial proposal and schedule of payment:

The consultancy fee should be based on per number of pages translated. Please send your CV, your price list for simultaneous and consecutive translation per page.

Candidates will be rated on both technical and financial evaluations, providing a weight of 70% to the technical component and 30% to the financial component. Only candidates achieving at least 70% from the technical evaluation shall be considered for financial evaluation.

Long Term Agreement Award

The Long-Term Agreement might be awarded to more than one individual whose offer have been evaluated and determined as:

  • Responsive/compliant/acceptable; and
  • Having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of weighted technical and financial criteria specific to the solicitation.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

  • Completed Higher Secondary Education.

Experience

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills in English and Dhivehi
  • Ability to work under pressure in an organised and systematic way
  • Ability to work unsupervised and independently
  • Willingness to work flexible hours in order to meet deadlines
  • Minimum two years of experience as a translator/ interpreter
  • Exposure to development work.

Language

  • Fluent in English.
