Your team

Within the Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, the FDP team is the product owner of all Flight Data related products and deliverables of Flight Data Processing (FDP) related projects. The team maintains and develops the software of the FDP systems with support from the industrial supplier. Together with the Controller Working Position (CWP), the FDPS is at the core of the MUAC Air Traffic Management system and a vital enabler for capacity, productivity and safety.

Your role

Your role will be to:



  • understand operational concept requirements and to translate them into FDP system and software level requirements, in particular in the IOP area;

  • produce lifecycle documentation of the FDP subsystems;

  • participate in and support subsystem and system integration and tests, and validation activities;

  • analyse the technical and operational problem reports, determine the diagnostics and fix problems;

  • analyse change requests and implement changes and bug fixes including demonstration to users, documentation and unit testing;

  • produce lifecycle document changes, support safety assessments, define test scoping and effort estimation;

  • maintain the documentation sets of FDPS subsystems, in particular in the IOP area;

  • share expertise and participate in technical project meetings (internal and external);

  • follow up the software development in the industry (in particular the quality of the software code) and contribute to the evolution of the FDPS systems and, in particular, for the IOP implementation.

  • perform any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies


  • Post-secondary education attested by a diploma (i.e. bachelor degree, in software engineering or computer science) or secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education and relevant professional experience of at least 3 years.

  • In addition to the above, a minimum of 3 years’ relevant working experience.

  • Experience on FDP and ATM systems

  • Experience in software programming.

  • Knowledge of Air Traffic Management.

  • Experience with the SESAR IOP concept (ED-133), would be considered a strong asset.

  • Applications will be accepted from nationals of EUROCONTROL Member States only. At the closing date of the notice of competition, internal candidates must have completed their probationary period.

  • This is an appointment for a determined period of 5 Year(s). It could be extended up to a maximum of 7 years or converted into an undetermined contract. Before being established in the post, the external candidate will be required to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.

  • Internal candidates appointed to an established post or for an undetermined period: If successful, the person will maintain his/her current type of appointment yet be selected to fill this position under the conditions set above (determined period). At the end of this limited-term appointment, he/she will be transferred to the type of post and grade corresponding to the one he/she held before the determined appointment.

  • Internal candidates appointed for determined period: If successful, the person will continue his/her current type of appointment if compliant with duration limits laid down in Annex X of the Staff Regulations/General Conditions of Employment.

  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade in the function group and to the type of post indicated in the vacancy notice, or, if a group of grades has been published, in principle at the basic grade.
