We are seeking a D.C. based Senior Director, Business Development (IMS). The Senior Director, Business Development serves as a business development resource within the IMS division. S/he helps division staff identify and track opportunities through the entire BD process from opportunity identification to proposal submission. S/he will manage proposal capture or preparation, serve as lead/contributing writer, support development and execution of business development strategies and be engaged otherwise in the design and delivery of competitive proposals.
Primary activities include but are not limited to: Engage with the Inclusive Market Systems (IMS) portfolio of new business opportunities based on the demands and priorities of the proposal processes and proposal team needs, manage proposal teams and contribute to the technical design process for multiple bids, depending on bid size, complexity, and strategic value. Support effective internal communication and information management processes to ensure access and use of business development information by relevant Headquarters and field-based stakeholders. Research, analyze, and plan for new funding opportunities, competitive intelligence, and ACDI/VOCA’s competitive positioning on a continuous basis within the marketplace in collaboration with staff in Resilience and Growth (R&G), IMS, Technical Learning and Application (TLA), and Business Development Group (BDG). In collaboration with BDG, provide business development skill and capacity to guide and/or lead IMS proposal teams in opportunity analysis, capture planning, proposal preparation, proposal review, and after-action review. In collaboration with BDG, support IMS proposal teams to manage proposal processes to ensure timely submission of high-quality proposals that are responsive to and compliant with donor requirements and with ACDI/VOCA technical application and cost application standards.
In addition, this position will be responsible for supporting IMS proposal teams in the identification of international partners and negotiation of ACDI/VOCA’s role on proposal consortia, ensuring a competitive position for ACDI/VOCA’s that adheres to organizational best practices and strategic direction. Contribute to proposal efforts as Lead Writer on strategic bids or as contributing writer by providing extensive technical content; In collaboration with BDG, contribute to the development and dissemination of standardized business development materials (learning resources, guidelines, tools and templates, and online information) and build capacity of IMS staff on their application. Provide proactive, timely ongoing support and advice to IMS proposal teams during proposal development, and collaborate with IMS, TLA, BDG and R&G staff to develop, implement, and monitor country program resource capture strategies. Support development and maintenance of key relationships with donors, collaborating organizations, and private sector actors with an eye toward opportunity identification, shared value creation, strategic alliance formation, and global brand positioning; Develop and maintain professional relationships with current and potential partners and donors.
Minimum Qualifications include Master’s degree or higher in international development, agriculture, finance, economics or another relevant field. Bachelor’s degree and additional years of experience in lieu of a Master’s degree will be considered. Minimum of eight years’ experience, including overseas work, in international development or related field. Fluency in English required; additional French and/or Spanish language skills desired. Demonstrated excellence in oral, written and reading comprehension abilities. Experience with multi-media applications, Power Point and other Microsoft programs. Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed, results-oriented environment at a fast pace. Able to work effectively within a team and across departments. Ability and willingness to travel to underdeveloped countries.
