Your team

Within the Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre,  the role of the Networks service is to assure 24/7 uncompromised operational availability of all essential network resources. This includes the provisioning of online data streams (a.o. all MUAC live Radar and live ATC voice data, flight plan exchanges with adjacent centers, RDF data).


Your role

Your role will be to:



  • ensure the overall coordination of the day-to-day operation of the Common Backbone Network (CBN) and the MUAC part of the Pan-European Network System (PENS) implemented at all civil- and military ANSPs operating in the Benelux. The service includes a 24/7 first-line maintenance support desk manned by ICS/NET Staff.

  • coordinate and perform the maintenance and repair actions on the operational Primary and Fall-back LAN's.

  • ensure the configuration and software level management of the operational Wide-Area Network infrastructure (CBN, PENS, VPNs) and the operational-and support LAN's.

  • coordinate all network changes with external network users, network suppliers, network control personnel and network staff of DFS responsible for the German part of the RAPNET.

  • deal with incident and fault handling: ensure logging, perform the detailed analysis, propose and implement solutions.

  • evaluate network performance by examining network load, bottlenecks, resource demand, availability & reliability of the system and take appropriate action in case of predicted impairment.

  • produce and maintain all technical documentation and to participate in projects and workforces as required

  • ensure the maintenance of specific network databases.

  • ensure system integration, testing and servicing of products.

  • participate to the stand-by service of the operational CBN, PENS and LAN's.

  • perform any other tasks in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies


  • Post-secondary education (i.e. bachelor degree) in engineering or IT.

  • In addition to the above, minimum 3 year(s) of relevant working experience.

  • Internal candidates should check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.

  • Experience or knowledge of CISCO Routing, Switching (including WLC) and Firewall products.

  • Knowledge of Checkpoint, Fortinet and/or Juniper security products is an asset.

  • Knowledge of Authentication products RADIUS, TACACS and AD is an asset.

  • English technical writing skills.

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular post, candidates must have thorough knowledge of English (oral/written). Knowledge of the other language is required to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties. Knowledge of German would be an asset.

  • Applications will be accepted from nationals of EUROCONTROL Member States only. At the closing date of the notice of competition, internal candidates must have completed their probationary period.

  • This is an appointment for a determined period of 5 Year(s). It could be extended up to a maximum of 7 years or converted into an undetermined contract. Before being established in the post, the external candidate will be required to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.

  • Internal candidates appointed to an established post or for an undetermined period: If successful, the person will maintain his/her current type of appointment yet be selected to fill this position under the conditions set above (determined period). At the end of this limited-term appointment, he/she will be transferred to the type of post and grade corresponding to the one he/she held before the determined appointment.

  • Internal candidates appointed for determined period: If successful, the person will continue his/her current type of appointment if compliant with duration limits laid down in Annex X of the Staff Regulations/General Conditions of Employment.

  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade in the function group and to the type of post indicated in the vacancy notice, or, if a group of grades has been published, in principle at the basic grade.
