Youth Participation Advisor (f/m)

Location: International Office, Innsbruck/Austria

SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organisation for the global federation of SOS Children’s Villages. As a non-governmental social development organisation we support children without parental care and families in difficult living conditions through services in care, education, health and emergency relief, and we advocate for the rights of children and young people, in alliance with a great diversity of partners. We work in 135 countries and territories, reaching over one million children, young people, families and caregivers each year.

Mission

The aim of the position is to lead and strengthen youth participation within the global federation.

This position will reinforce processes by which young people will influence decision making on:

  • their individual development
  • the support and services for young people
  • laws and policies affecting young people

Using a child rights-based approach these efforts will lead to increased programme quality and empowered children and young people in SOS programmes. The Youth Participation Advisor will become an integral part of the broader Youth and ICT4D team.

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Finalise a guide and needed tools on youth participation to support member associations and regional offices in the implementation of youth participation programmes
  • Support different projects/areas of work in developing tools and strategies for adequate inclusion and participation of children and young people
  • Build the capacity on and strengthen the culture of youth participation eg by Identifying/ sharing and scaling best practices within the organisation or running capacity-building activities on youth participation with different stakeholder groups
  • Lead and further develop a group of young leaders, eg by:
    • organising and hosting youth meetings/conferences
    • support and prepare young people to join different government meetings
    • further developing their role and position within the federation
    • design and implement consultations processes for key strategic papers together with young people
  • Support  the development of different funding proposals on youth participation
  • Connect with other organisations and externally join forces on the issue of youth participation
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or related field
  • Ideally three years of professional experience in child and youth participation
  • One year experience from  working in cross sector partnerships, preferably Private/Corporate/NGO sector or experience from working or studying abroad in an international context would be desirable; some experience working with SOS Children’s Villages would be an asset
  • Fluency in English orally and in written form,
  • Spanish or French would be an asset
  • Very good MS Office user skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team and independently
  • Strong organisational skills and the competency to work in a cross-cultural environment
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to work proactively and take own initiatives
  • Target- and solution-oriented approach to work
  • Applicants must hold a valid Austrian working permit or be eligible to work within the EU
