Development Associate

New York City (United States of America)

DNDi North America is seeking a Development Associate to play an instrumental role in supporting private fundraising efforts mainly in the United States and in some instances, internationally. Based out of DNDi’s office in New York City, the Development Associate will report to the Development Manager and will provide crucial support to a small, dynamic development team, which includes the Senior Development Advisor and Campaign Advisor in New York as well as the External Relations Manager in Geneva, Switzerland.

 S/he will help ensure outstanding cultivation/stewardship efforts for donors and prospects, assist with the content and design of marketing materials, provide crucial administrative support for the team, and propose and implement efficient and effective procedures to strengthen internal systems. S/he will have experience handling a variety of tasks related to relationship management with donors, prospect research, gift processing, database maintenance, donor communications, and fundraising events

 Specific Job Responsibilities


· Cultivate, solicit, steward and serve as main point of contact for individual donors giving below $5,000

·      Conduct research on current and prospective foundations and individual donors and develop donor profiles

·      Assist in identifying funding prospects and in initiating and developing prospective donor relationships

·      Assist in drafting and finalizing grant proposals, reports, and letters of inquiry for foundation funders

·      Support the DNDi North America fundraising team with logistics for donor meetings, and other preparation as needed

·      Participate in fundraising strategy meetings



·      Provide donor database (Salesforce) administrative support, including running of queries and reports, and data entry

·      Process all gifts and ensure accurate and appropriate documentation of all pledges, proposals, grants, gift acknowledgments, reports, and donor correspondence

·      Send timely acknowledgement letters and pledge reminders

·      Serve as the primary liaison with the Internal Operations team in Geneva for Salesforce and with the Finance team for gift reconciliation

·      Update various charity evaluators/assessment organizations (Better Business Bureau, Guidestar, Charity Navigator), as needed

·      Provide administrative and clerical support such as keeping calendars, scheduling and preparing materials for meetings, note taking, managing returned mail, and other tasks as requested



·      Support the DNDi North America fundraising team in developing and implementing fundraising and cultivation events

·      Assist the Development lead with event timelines, deadlines, list creation, outreach and vendor contracts

·      Develop and coordinate (with Development and Communications teams) pre- and post-event communications, e.g. event invitations, promotional materials, print and digital media

·      Coordinate event logistics, including RSVP and attendee tracking, room setup, materials preparation, catering, and technology needs


·      Manage all logistical aspects of direct mail appeals, including the full execution of in-house mailings

·      Assist in the production of all creative content including donor presentations, reports, letters, email communications, and web content

Reporting Line

S/he will report to the Development Manager


S/he provides administrative support to additional members of the private fundraising team, including the Senior Development Advisor and Campaign Advisor based in New York and the External Relations Manager based in Geneva

Spanish and/or French is a plus
