OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The mission of WHO's Health Emergencies Programme (The Programme) is to build the capacity of Member States to manage health emergency risks and, when national capacities are overwhelmed, to lead and coordinate the international health response to contain outbreaks and to provide effective relief and recovery to affected populations. The Department of Infectious Hazard Management (IHM) supports countries in prevention and control of high threat diseases of pandemic & epidemic potential through forecasting, characterization of diseases /infectious risks and development of evidence-based strategies to manage infectious hazards.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Within the framework of the delegated authority, and under the leadership of the Director, the incumbent is assigned all or part of the following responsibilities\:

1. Provide support to the Director for the day-to-day monitoring and evaluation of IHM area of work (at the 3 level of the Organization) including the regular development of review papers of achievements as well as concept notes on relevant aspects of epidemic and pandemic diseases.

2. Develop, in collaboration with the department and relevant stakeholders, the Blueprint for Pandemic Preparedness, including writing, collation of feedback, organisation of stakeholder meetings.

3. Collaborate with the planning officer, technical leads in the department and with cross cutting project teams in the development, implementation and monitoring of the technical andoperational work plans in line with the GPW13.

4. Contribute to the preparation of reports, briefings, project proposals, communications and advocacy documents required for strategic decision making.

5. Attend various project management meetings, coordinate relevant activities, ensure predictable follow-up on agreed action points with the Director.

6. Perform other related duties including replacing and backstopping as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: University Degree in Public Health
Desirable\: An Advanced level degree (MA or above) in public health

Experience

Essential\: At least 5 years of documented public health workexperience in an international environment.Proven project management experience and experience working with Ministries of Health and partners.
Desirable\: Relevant work experience in WHO, other UN agencies, relevant non-governmental or humanitarian organizations. Knowledge of WHO rules and regulations. Experience in infectious diseases global program.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 60,233 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3393 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
