1.    Organizational Context

 

a.        Organizational Setting

 

The position is located in the Protocol and Event Management Division, Office of the Director General. The Protocol and Event Management Division is responsible for the overall planning, direction and supervision of the full range of protocol and events services, and diplomatic liaison with representatives of Member States, Permanent and Observers Missions to WIPO, as well as other official partners.

 

b.        Purpose Statement

 

The incumbent's primary role is to manage and administer catering services.

 

c.        Reporting Lines

 

The incumbent works under the supervision and reports directly to the Director of Protocol and Event Management.

 

 

2.     Duties and Responsibilities

 

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties\:

 

a.  Liaise with representatives of WIPO stakeholders (Member States, NGOs, IGOs) to identify and discuss their catering related needs and to ensure objectives are met and excellent service is consistently provided.

 

b.  Carry out research to identify WIPO stakeholders' menu requirements as per cultural, dietary needs and restrictions and propose new menu solutions and alternatives.

 

c.  Liaise with internal and external catering services for the preparation of budgetary proposals to meet stakeholders' requests, and to coordinate activities.

 

d.  Evaluate and monitor catering operations and outsourced staff, identify any problems, concerns and opportunities for improvement and make recommendations accordingly.

 

e.  Ensure strict and consistent adherence to the Organization's health, safety and hygiene policies, practices and procedures for relevant catering operations.

 

f.   Take action to resolve client complaints, support and guide catering staff, and ensure smooth and composed catering operations and a satisfied customer base.

 

g.  Liaise with internal colleagues on catering related needs and activities during WIPO Committees and official Meetings.

 

h.  Perform other related activities when required.

 

 

3.     Requirements

 

Education

Essential

Completed secondary, technical or vocational school.

 

Experience

Essential

At least eight years of experience in catering management or operations with excellent customer service record.

 

Language

Essential

Excellent knowledge of English or French and good knowledge of the other language.

 

Desirable

Knowledge of other UN official languages.

 

Job Related Competencies

Essential

Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and to effectively coordinate event-related catering activities associated with large scale official events.

 

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective partnerships and working relations in a multicultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

 

Competent user of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and the Internet.

5.      Information

 

Mobility\:  WIPO staff members are international civil servants subject to the authority of the Director General and may be assigned to any activities of the Organization. Accordingly, the selected candidate may be required to move from time to time to new functions.

 

Annual salary (Net of tax)\:  82,234 CHF

Additional Information

 

Initial period of one year, renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.  No fixed-term appointment or any extension hereof shall carry with it any expectancy of, nor imply any right to, (further) extensions or conversion to a permanent appointment.

 

Dependency allowances

7,939 CHF per year for dependent spouse;  6,398 CHF per year for each dependent child.

 

Language allowance

Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish\: 4,788 CHF per year for two of these languages, and 3,192 CHF per year for one of them.  The allowance is not payable for the mother tongue or the main working language of the staff member.  The grant of this allowance is subject to examination.

 

General Service posts are generally subject to local recruitment.  Staff in the General Service category is recruited in the host country or within reasonable commuting distance of the Headquarters.
