Recognizing the role and influence that faith-based organizations have in many parts of the world, UNICEF seeks to further identify the opportunities for engagement, including finan-cial opportunities, and accordingly shape a global engagement strategy that will drive change and impact for children. This exercise seeks the expertise of a consultant to conduct a landscape analysis, collect feedback and guidance from a wide range of actors and support the development of a global partnership strategy with clear recommendations on ways to engage with Faith-Based Organizations. Building on UNICEF’s experience, the output will be a concise report defining the strategic value for UNICEF to engage with faith-based organizations, highlighting opportunities and key recommendations of how to engage, and determine with whom there is a strong likelihood of UNICEF entering into a partnership to provide significant financial support to UNICEF’s lifesaving programs. The selected candidate will work in close collaboration with UNICEF Global Philanthropy unit and a newly established reference group.

The selected candidate will work in close collaboration with UNICEF Global Philanthropy unit and a newly established reference group.

How can you make a difference?

The output will be a concise report defining the strategic value for UNICEF to engage with faith-based organizations, highlighting opportunities and key recommendations of how to engage, and determine with whom there is a strong likelihood of UNICEF entering into partnerships to provide significant support to UNICEF's lifesaving programmes.

MAIN TASKS:

The consultant's work will consist of three phases:

  1. Conduct a landscape analysis
  • This includes defining the faith-based organizations landscape and trends, outlining the key relevant players and their relative influence and giving capacities
  • This analysis should be conducted with a clear understanding of UNICEF's experience in this space, as well as UNICEF's mission and needs, ensuring the opportunities identified are mapped with the organization goals to drive change and impact for children.
  1. Collect feedback and guidance from a wide range of actors
  • This includes conducting interviews of existing faith-based organizations partners and other influential players, pre-selected by UNICEF
  • This phase will be crucial to grasp UNICEF's positioning, as well as the organization perceived strengths and weaknesses in order to identify the opportunities of engagement, financials and others (advocacy, influence, community impact, volunteering, or more)
  1. Formulation of Strategic Value Proposition/Recommendation:
  • This includes producing a concise report with a Strategic Value Proposition that defines the opportunities and recommended areas of engagement.
  • The recommendations should:

a. Outline opportunities for UNICEF within the international landscape;

b. Present the perspective of major faith-based organizations and different options for UNICEF to strengthen its organizational capacity and value added in engaging with faith-based organizations;

c. Outline a roadmap for implementation, resource mobilization and new partnerships - a coherent set of with goals and prioritized activities aimed at fulfilling UNICEF's overall mission.

DELIVERABLES:

The expected deliverable is a compelling Strategic Value Proposition with clear recommendations.

ESTIMATED DURATION OF THE CONTRACT AND PROPOSAL:

Global Philanthropy Specialist, Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP)

WORK PLACE:

New York or Home-based (Travel is required, at least twice to NY for a period of 3-5 days and specific travel plans will be defined as needed).

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advanced University degree in Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, Fundraising, Social Sciences, Development Studies, other related fields is required.
  • A minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience at national and international levels in research and analysis. 
  • Knowledge of UNICEF or the UN system approaches to partnerships with the private sector;
  • Knowledge of faith-based landscape and familiarity with current actors;
  • Experience in strategy development, advisory services and partnerships;
  • Strong analytical and research skills;
  • Strong track record in writing and editing reports;
  • Effective communication skills and ability to communicate with different stakeholders;
  • Openness to change and ability to receive/integrate feedback;
  • Outstanding communication, presentation and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines;
  • Demonstrates integrity and ethical standards;
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability;
  • Proficiency in the use of office IT applications and internet in conducting research.
  • Fluency in English is required.

Please indicate your ability, availability and gross daily/monthly rate (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference above (including travel and daily subsistence allowance, if applicable).  Applications submitted without a daily/monthly rate will not be considered. Also, please mention the earliest date you can start.
