Your team

Within the Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre,, the Engineering Domain (ENGD) is the service responsible for providing a cost-effective and timely support service to maintain the high-level operational availability of all the technical systems. The System Control team is responsible for monitoring and controlling Maastricht UAC ATM/CNS Systems, sub-systems and associated equipment in order to assure the operational availability of the technical systems of the Centre on a 24/7 basis.

Your role

Your role will be to :



  • monitor and operate autonomously the Maastricht UAC ATM/CNS systems in accordance with System Control procedures and working instructions;

  • interpret all operator messages, system alarms and reported deficiencies and log these according to the applicable process;

  • perform first line fault diagnosis, fault isolation and system equipment reconfiguration to restore the Maastricht UAC ATM/CNS systems and services;

  • initiate and follow up engineering first line corrective actions according to the applicable process;

  • participate in the verification, validation and implementation of new software and hardware products;

  • apply the safety and security procedures in case of emergency;

  • draft technical reports on system and equipment deficiencies, when required;

  • participate in the maintenance, improvement and validation of the system controller documentation including procedures and working instructions;

  • liaise with other sections in order to establish and maintain effective working practices;

  • maintain competencies required for a System Controller in line with applicable training plans and certification process;

  • perform any other tasks in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies


  • A level of post-secondary education attested by a diploma, preferably in IT, or a level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education with at least 3 years of relevant working experience.

  • Internal candidates should check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate - Check on the intranet what level of in-house experience is required to compensate for any lack of educational qualifications

  • In addition to the above, a minimum of 3 years' relevant professional experience.

  • Experience in incident management (e.g. identification, analysis, correction).

  • Ability to draft technical reports in English.

  • Understanding of the ATC infrastructure and ATM system architecture.

  • Experience in ATC infrastructure and ATM system architecture would be considered an advantage.

  • Understanding of the Maastricht Data Processing and Display System (MADAP) would be considered an advantage.

  • Ability to work with well-defined processes and procedures.

  • Ability to work in a complex and changing technical environment.

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular post, candidates must have thorough knowledge of English (oral/written). Knowledge of the other language is required to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties. Knowledge of Dutch would be considered a strong asset.

  • If an external candidate is selected, he/she will be offered an appointment for an undetermined period. Before being established in the post, the external candidate will be required to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.

  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade in the function group and to the type of post indicated in the vacancy notice, or, if a group of grades has been published, in principle at the basic grade.
