Your team

Within the Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, the Airspace, Capacity and Environment (ACE) team, part of the MUAC/ENG/ATS Unit, is responsible for the maintenance and development of tools which support MUAC in achieving its capacity targets and sustain the growing air traffic demand.

Your role

Your role will be to:



  • Analyse requirements in close collaboration with users, evaluate, identify and design innovative software solutions to satisfy business needs;

  • Lead architectural design and participate in the development of software applications as part of the ACE portfolio;

  • Solve complex design matters and help development teams apply the principles of service-oriented architecture, design patterns, coding standards and quality procedures;

  • Manage projects on behalf of the Team Leader;

  • Produce complex technical papers and software lifecycle documents and contribute to safety and security assessments;

  • Be responsible, as product owner, for the maintenance and evolution of the assigned software applications as part of the ACE portfolio;

  • Anticipate on business issues, find creative solutions and effective strategies for implementation;

  • Train members of the software development team;

  • Provide input for the technical strategy regarding the evolution of the architecture of MUAC ATM systems;

  • Interact with suppliers, draft requirements for outsourced software development and negotiate technical solutions;

  • Perform any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies


  • Completed university studies of 3 years in a relevant domain (e.g. IT, Business Intelligence) attested by a diploma. A Master’s degree would be an asset.

  • In addition to the above, minimum 3 years of relevant working experience

  • Experience in data analysis (Business Intelligence tools)

  • Experience in software architecture design

  • Experience in Database Technology and Evolutions

  • Knowledge of Air Traffic Flow and Capacity Management

  • Knowledge of Airspace Management Planning tools

  • Project management skills

  • English drafting skills (technical documentation)
