UNICEF China Office is looking for an experienced consultant to help the Education Section to develop the Preschool Educational Pedagogical Coaching Handbook. The assignment is for 7 months starting from mid-May 2019.

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, an education

Teachers' pedagogical coaching activities are regarded as an effective way to build up teachers' professional capacity. In 2018, the Chinese Government issued a policy document in which it emphasizes the importance of improving preschool education pedagogical coaching systems. However, in China, there is no existing guidance or handbook to support local ECD focal points or kindergartens on how to do pedagogical coaching activities. Therefore, there is a need for writing up a handbook of preschool education pedagogical coaching activities that could be used by ECD project focal points or kindergartens in UNICEF pilot areas. This will improve the quality of pedagogical coaching activities, promote teaching quality and sustain quality improvement, and potentially benefit teachers and children beyond UNICEF programmes through professional exchange.

How can you make a difference?

The purpose of the consultancy is to develop a handbook on preschool educational pedagogical coaching activities. The handbook will include the general principles and methods of conducting pedagogical coaching activities, but also ten important kindergarten quality themes which ECD focal points or kindergartens could follow step-by-step in their own contexts. The handbook needs a rural perspective.
