Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

In the framework of the Jordan Response Plan 2018-2020 to the Syria Crisis (JRP), UN Women works at multiple levels to respond to the specific needs of Syrian refugee women and vulnerable Jordanian women. UN Women runs Oasis Resilience and Empowerment centers for women and girls, which provide multi-sectoral services including livelihoods support, GBV prevention and awareness and civic engagement opportunities.  The overall goal of UN Women’s interventions is to empower vulnerable women through increased access to opportunities and meaningful engagement in community life.

In this framework, UN Women is seeking to recruit a Field Assistant who will support implementation of activities at field level.  The Field Assistant will work under the supervision and guidance of the Field Officer.  The Field Assistant has daily contact with the Field Officer and with functional units at the Country Office.

Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Follow up with local partners on implementing activities, including the monitoring of work plans and activities.
  • Report on daily basis activity progress.
  • Closely work with the project team to facilitate the preparations and implementation of field activities, events, assessments, and support if needed admin/finance exercises including petty procurement, purchasing, invoicing and reporting.
  • Facilitate meetings with counterparts in the governorates.
  • Events and meetings are properly scheduled and organized.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • The Field Assistant is responsible for on-the-ground preparations of activities in the assigned governorate and in coordination with the Field Officer for the implementation of the project activities, events, and communications. 
  • Participates in internal and external coordination meetings representing the project;
  • Support the production of any material needed for information purposes, such as reports, articles for the web, brochures, films, etc.
  • Follow up operations in the field, day to day management and delivery of the activities and facilitation of knowledge sharing.
  • Timely reports are shared.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

  • Community College Diploma in social sciences, economics, business administration or any related field.

Experience

  • 2 years of working experience in the field of development.
  • Knowledge of and/or working with CBO’s and local government is an asset.

Language

  • Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
