Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a dedicated Advocacy and Coordination Specialist to join our team in Kabul. If you are interested in political processes, notably in the Afghan context, and if you are a skilled coordinator and communicator capable of mobilizing, motivating and building consensus among people, you may be the person we are looking for.

 

About the job

The Advocacy and Coordination Specialist will build awareness of the Global Refugee Compact and the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework among civil society actors in Afghanistan and facilitate civil society preparations for the Global Refugee Forum in December 2019.

 

The Specialist will be successful if he/she manages to mobilize civil society actors to develop coordinated constructive engagement in the implementation of the Global Compact on Refugees in Afghanistan in partnership with relevant UN and government stakeholders. Further, the Specialist will be successful if she/he is able to influence and partake in the pledging made at the Global Refugee Forum in December 2019.

 

The Specialist will mobilize a wide range of civil society stakeholders, including national civil society organisations, refugees and hosting communities, to:

 

  • Build civil society’s knowledge of and engagement with the Global Compact on Refugees, including understanding its purpose and outputs
  • Identifying and, where necessary, creating entry points for civil society to engage with processes taking place around the GCR in Afghanistan. This includes building links between civil society and government, UN and INGO stakeholders.
  • Support civil society to identify concrete gaps and shortcomings (in funding, programming responses, in policy framework) in achieving the GCR objectives;
  • Working in partnership with ADSP member organisations and civil society organisations, seek support with government, local authorities, donors and other actors to support the development of concrete pledges/commitments to be made at the Global Refugee Forum in December 2019
  • Document relevant good practice to show-case at the Global Refugee Forum

 

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to be politically savvy and thrive in working with multiple actors. Moreover, we also expect the following:

 

Required

  • More than 5 years’ experience working in positions requiring inter-agency mobilization, joint advocacy and coordination
  • Proven experience of engaging with policy development and advocacy processes
  • Documented experience of working with national civil society, particularly on capacity building, accountability and participation activities
  • Expertise in refugee and displacement contexts
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills

     

    Desirable

  • Knowledge of developing policy processes such as the GCR and CRRF
  • Experience of the Afghan context is an asset
  • Dari and/or Pahtu speakers are very much encouraged to apply for this position

Contract length: 6 months

Level: Band G (cf. DRC’s Terms of Employment for Expatriates)
