The mission of the Green Climate Fund is to assist developing countries to respond to climate change while bringing prosperity to their peoples.

Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global climate action and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low-emission and climate-resilient societies.  It is country-driven and undertakes actions which reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its national aspirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Since its establishment, the GCF has mobilized 10.3 billion USD, accredited 75 entities to channel its resources and approved 93 funding proposals for a total investment from the GCF of over $4.6 billion. In addition, the decision has just been made to launch the first replenishment of the Fund.

Internship Assignment

The Intern will provide operational and administrative support to the Division of Mitigation and Adaptation, specifically in the Infrastructure thematic focus area. S/he will have the opportunity to learn and expand her/his experiences by providing assistance to the sector specialist and his/her team in the development of a sector guidance, research on climate resilient infrastructure for the replenishment process and providing support for a strong pipeline and portfolio for the infrastructure sector, with direct contribution to GCF’s mandate to pursue climate resilient development. Under the overall guidance of the designated primary and alternate supervisors within the Division of Mitigation and Adaptation, the Intern is expected to:

1. Desk research, and data and market analysis for the infrastructure sector;
2. Administrative management of activities related to events, partnerships, guides and planning documents;
3. Support in the review of concept notes and funding proposals related to the infrastructure sector.

Requirements and qualifications

1. Enrolled or a recent graduate of a master’s degree in infrastructure, spatial planning, climate change related to build-in structures or related engineering sector;
2. Knowledge and experience in desk research and broader market research, experience in climate change related work, administrative work for projects and processes, strong analytical skills with fluency in preparation of analysis’ summaries in excel and related diagrams;
3. Good understanding and experience in operations of intentional organization is an added advantage;
4. Proficiency in using standard software programs: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access;
5. Excellent writing and presentation skills;
6. Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of another United Nations language, in particular French and Spanish, and/or Portuguese is an advantage.
