Our team and mission
The purpose of the ESA Business Applications and Services feasibility studies and project is to achieve commercial/economic viable satellite based applications in a variety of application domains (e.g. health, transport, energy, tourism, public safety, environment, agriculture).
Field(s) of activities
The Young Graduate Trainee (YGT) will perform their duties as part of the Management and Control Office of Downstream Business Applications Department.
The YGT will support the Socio-Economic impact and Return on Investment analysis, reporting for the ESA Business Applications and all ESA commercially focused activities.
The trainee will perform an investigation and characterization of the opportunities for space-based applications in the safety and security sector. This will entail the analysis of the current applications projects in the specific domain with the objective of identifying gaps with respect to new user needs. Current partners and new possible ones shall be considered to identify limitations of the current services and state-of-the-art applications and new requirements.
During the traineeship, the YGT will be able to study the value of using space assets such as satellite communications, satellite navigation and satellite earth observation for applications in the identified sector. He/she will assess the applications potential of new technologies both in the space sector (govsatcom, QKD,etc.) and in the terrestrial sector (blockchain, cybersecurity) as possible key elements for new applications.

Applicants should have just completed, or be in their final year of a University course at Masters Level (or equivalent) in a technical or scientific discipline, preferably in combination with an economics or business discipline.
Additional requirements
Additional technical competencies: good experience and skills in operating MS Office tools including SharePoint and proficiency in development of Macros via Visual Basic for Application is required.
Applicants must be fluent in English and/or French, the working languages of the Agency. A good proficiency in English is required.
In addition, applicants should demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team. Applicants should have good analytical and communication skills.
During the interview the candidates’ motivation and overall professional perspective/career goals will also be explored.
