Internship – Automation Support

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.

The WFP Library & Research Centre, PGB Division, requires short-term assistance to carry out the following duties:

•        Develop and maintain the Library and Research Centre’s email automation using Microsoft Office 365 Flow and Power Apps

•        Support with small web automation activities using UIPath robot development

•        Manage integration between the Libraries catalogue and WFP’s intranet using RSS-based services

•        Support with the specifications and testing of a machine learning system to identify keywords from articles and recommend reader groups

•        Support digital archiving a and indexing of publications on the Library’s Inveneo catalog wfp.tind.io using standard metadata descriptors based on the corporate taxonomy.

The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Information & Knowledge Management Officer P-3 and in close consultation and cooperation with the service’s staff.  The duty station will be Rome, WFP HQ. The assignment is to start ASAP and has a minimum duration of 3 months with the possibility of extension.

Essential Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled having completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or have recently graduated in the last six months with a BA or MA;
  • Course attendance in the past twelve months;
  • Proficiency in Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook);
  • Excellent command of English (native level proficiency),
  • Excellent analytical skills;
  • Ability to work productively in a multi-cultural environment essential. 
  • Working knowledge with MS Sharepoint, MS Office 365 and programming in MS VBA is necessary as well as familiarity with RSS-based services, web automation, web scraping, HTML, notions of VPN and proxies, CDNs, usage of social media platforms and APIs is necessary.
  • Familiarity with MS Office 365 Power Apps, Flow and MSSQL Server is an added asset as are also notions of knowledge and information management.
  • Fluency in English is required. Good knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
