Organizational Setting
The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
The position is located in the FAO Representation in Kenya
Reporting Lines
The Policy Analyst will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Kenya and direct supervision of the FIRST Senior Policy Officer (SPO) to support food and nutrition security policy and sustainable agriculture and to specifically contribute to FAO strategic objectives on ending hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition (SO1), and make agriculture productive and sustainable (SO2).
Technical Focus
The technical focus for this position covers areas related to policy analysis on food and nutrition security and sustainable agriculture aimed at promoting evidence based policies and programmes.
Tasks and responsibilities
Specifically, the policy analyst will\:
• Mobilize relevant MoALF staff/ partners and undertakes review and stocktaking of policy and strategic frameworks, including the Agricultural Sector Transformation and Growth Strategy (ASTGS), and investment plans and implementation frameworks with recommendations for the way forward.
• Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, and policy advocacy materials in partnership with staff and partners.
• Organize and facilitate workshops for training, policy dialogue, and information and knowledge sharing including the 2019 World Food Day (WFD).
• Support the establishment of Public-Private Policy Dialogue platforms both at the national and county levels by liaising with the committee on the implementation of the PPPDP.
• Contribute to consultative and other meetings, conferences, including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, Preparation of documents and presentations.
• Assist with outreach and communication-related activities; design of training workshops, seminars, reviews and contributes to the development of learning materials, makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
• Perform other related tasks as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• University Degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Food Security and Nutrition and/or Sustainable Agriculture or related area.
• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in mapping and analysis of policies, programmes and investments in areas related to agriculture, food security and nutrition.
• Working knowledge of English and Kiswahili

Technical/Functional Skills

• Extent and relevance of experience in data collection, data analysis, report writing, and excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office
• A good understanding of the country’s agriculture sector will be an added advantage
• Familiarity and knowledge of the Kenyan 2010 constitutional implications of devolution
