Job Description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC), one of the world’s largest humanitarian agencies, provides relief, rehabilitation and post-conflict reconstruction support to victims of natural disaster, oppression and violent conflict in 42 countries. Since 1992, the IRC has provided life-saving services to refugees and vulnerable local communities in Kenya. In Kenya, the IRC implements programs in the areas of integrated primary health care (including nutrition and HIV/AIDS); economic recovery and livelihoods; protection of rights; and women’s protection and empowerment in refugees camps as well as northern Kenya and Nairobi.

IRC seeks to fill position of Civil Engineer Intern with the below responsibilities;

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as a representative of the Construction Manager on ground
  • Ensuring that the quality of work is up to the standards set
  • Supervision of the works being carried out by the contractor
  • Ensuring quality control of all the materials and processes used
  • Ensuring that all tests are carried out in accordance to the standards and that the quality matches what is indicated
  • Inspection of concrete mix ratio, placement and reinforcement as per the technical specifications and schedule
  • Ensuring that the contractor has satisfactory resources required for the work such as qualified personnel, skilled and unskilled laborers, equipment, and materials are available on site to complete construction activities as planned.
  • Ensuring that Safety rules and regulations are met with accordance to the standards
  • Maintaining record s and files and transmitting the information to the Construction manager at the main including photographs, plant, equipment and labor used in construction of the works.
  • Meeting and coordinating with the relevant stakeholders so as to minimize disruption to the works and for good communications at site.
  • Update the work schedule and inform the Construction manager on the work progress on the site.
  • At completion of the contracts, verify the contractor’s ‘as-built drawings”, quantity and quality records as a true record of the works as constructed.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in relevant field: Construction, Civil and Structural Engineering, Building and Construction
  • Experience in at least one construction site: Attachment experience to be considered.
