Job Description

Background/IRC Summary:

Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a prominent international organization working in relief, rehabilitation, protection, post-conflict development, resettlement services and advocacy for those uprooted or affected by violent conflict and oppression. 

Working in coordination with the humanitarian community, the IRC currently addresses the needs of war-affected Syrians from several operational bases in the region. Our activities focus primarily on the supply of vital medications and medical equipment, non-food items, water and sanitation and women and children’s protection, and form part of an over-arching humanitarian response in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and the region that seeks to assist refugees, IDPs and war-affected Syrians survive conflict and displacement.

Job Overview/Summary:

The Senior Child Protection Officer will be responsible for the day to day implementation of the IRC’s Community Based Child Protection programming in Ramadi. Senior Child Protection Officer will provide guidance and day to day tasking to child protection officers. The child protection programming in Ramadi includes Child Protection Committees, Youth Committees and parenting skills. The Officer is expected to take a lead role in representing the IRC’s Child Protection programming with other actors where appropriate and support in the coordination of trainings for staff and others.
Responsibilities:

Planning and Programme Implementation

  • Work with the Child Protection Manager to create effective work plans for Child Protection activities in Ramadi.
  • Provide regular planning, support and day to day tasking for the child protection team with the guidance of the Child Protection Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Child Protection Manager, administration assistant and Operations to ensure that supplies are available for child protection activities in a timely manner and resources are available to support events, trainings, workshops conducted by outside consultants/experts.

Human Resources

  • Lead on the identification and recruitment of Child Protection Mobilisers.
  • Provide daily support for up to three Child Protection Officers.

Child Protection and Youth Committee

  • Ensure all staff are trained and supported to implement the child protection committee activity as per the standard operating procedure, manual and trainings guides.
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of this activity.

Parenting Skills

  • Ensure all staff are trained and supported to implement the parenting skills activity as per the standard operating procedure and parenting skills manuals and training guides.
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of this activity.

Documentation, Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Submit bi weekly sitreps and monthly reports to the Child Protection Manager and assist in other periodic and annual reports as needed

Other

  • Provide continuous feedback to the Child Protection Manager on any challenges in the work implementation to be addressed directly with corrective steps/measures if needed.
  • Ensure compliance with IRC policies and protocols of confidentiality, respect and safety.
  • Perform other duties, as needed or requested by the supervisor

Qualifications

Job Requirements/Experience Required: 

  • Bachelor degree.
  • Literacy required. At least some English skills are preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate a child sensitive, non-judgmental and proactive attitude.
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Professional experience in similar approach preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in a rapidly changing professional environment with a view towards establishing administrative procedures and protocol that will ensure optimal functioning of the Operation.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
