Job Description

 Job Overview/Summary: the WPE Prevention officer will be disseminating information and provide trainings to the men and boys on GBV issues. He will be involved in mobilizing communities to develop and implement strategies to prevent GBV. Implement awareness raising activities targeting the men and the boys.

Major RESPONSIBILITIES: The WPE Prevention Officer shall:

  • With support from Sr. WPE Officer, plan, initiate, and carry out community outreach, mobilization, and risk mitigation activities in the community.
  • Provide information sessions with the men and boys in the community and disseminate information about available services at the WGCCs.
  • Organize training and sensitization sessions for men groups, community leaders, religious leaders, local authorities on GBV issues.
  • Promote active community participation in prevention and response to GBV.
  • Build relationships with communities targeted by the project and community leaders to provide education and facilitate discussion on GBV.
  • Communicate with the supervisor on program progress, constraints, training needs identified during the implementation of activities.
  • Assist in linking community members to services that are provided through IRC’s Protection and WPE programs and to external resources.
  • Develop work and movement plans outlining what tasks will be completed and when.
  • Document all outreach and mobilization activities in an accurate and timely manner using agreed tools
  • Provide field visit reports, assessment reports, and narrative reports to the Senior WPE Officer.
  • Assist with formal data gathering for planning purposes and for participatory
  • Participate in workshops, meeting and trainings as agreed with the supervisor.
  • Any other duties requested by the Senior WPE Officer or WPE Senior Manager in support of the program.

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Position Reports to: WPE Senior Officer

Position directly supervises: None

Other Internal and/or external contacts:

Internal: WPE Case Workers, IRC Iraq team including other programmes (ERD, Child Protection, and Protection/Rule of Law), Grants Department, Supply Chain, HR and Finance Departments

External: Close collaboration with other humanitarian actors, local NGOs, UN agencies, government service providers.


Qualifications

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor degree
  • Knowledgeable of GBV issues.
  • Good English language (both writing and speaking)
  • Experience working in a protection program, and implementing programs in vulnerable communities.
  • Strong organizational and reporting skills
  • Understands sensitivities of conducting outreach and awareness on violence related issues.
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and without judgment.
  • Emotional maturity and stability to deal with conflict and confrontation in non-violent way and maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, ethnicity, and age sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Good communication and facilitation skills to work with community members and leaders on sensitive topics
  • Ability to work independently and check in remotely with supervisor to provide input and reporting on activities
  • Experience in report writing
