Background

Organizational Context 

Under the overall guidance of the Head of Information Management Officer of UNOCHA South Sudan, and under the direct supervisor of the Information Management Officer, the Mapping Services Clerk attends to a range of Duties / Services ensuring preparation of Maps to clients in timely manner, maintain good records of data; Assist in enabling the easy and regular updating of information products for distribution, to facilitate better access to the information.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the information Management Officer (P-3) of OCHA South Sudan Head Office in Juba, South Sudan within limits of delegated authority the Mapping Services clerk will be responsible for the following duties;-

  • Be the customer service focal point to clients who come to OCHA to request for hardcopy maps.
  • Maintain a physical space with updated map catalogues and other printed information products.
  • Data entry and cleaning of datasets received from the Government, UN agencies, I/NGOs and other humanitarian partners.
  • Digitising and updating shape files and supporting on preparation of mapping products.
  • Assist in enabling the easy and regular updating of information products for distribution, to facilitate better access to the information.
  • Any other tasks required to assist GIS activities and support to the IM Officer.
  • Perform any other duties as reasonably required by the Head of Communications Unit or the IMO.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Diploma in Information Technology (IT) or Database Management or GIS is a requirement.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and IT background with analytical judgment; efficiency and ability to work independently in a result oriented multi-tasking environment.

Experience:

  • At least three years of progressively responsible experience in the areas of Database management and mapping.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision;
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multi-skilled tasks.
  • Additional Skills Desired: Working knowledge of Database systems and mapping soft wares. Development of online databases and visualization platforms is desired

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English required, knowledge of other United Nations languages would be an advantage.
