Job Description

Contextual background

The IRC has been present in Nigeria since 2012 when the organization responded to flooding in Kogi state. In February 2014 the IRC moved into Adamawa State in NE Nigeria to provide humanitarian interventions through a multi-sectoral, integrated approach for conflict affected populations. IRC Nigeria now operates a country office in Abuja and field offices in Mubi and Yola of Adamawa State, Maiduguri, Gwoza and Monguno of Borno state and Damatru of Yobe State. Currently, IRC Nigeria implements programs primary health care, nutrition, environmental health, women’s protection and empowerment, protection, child protection, education, food security & livelihoods

Job Overview/Summary

Under the management of the community engagement officer, The WPE community engagement assistant will be based in Monguno. He/ She will coordinates with other WPE staff, to ensure community members’ full representative is achieved at Monguno and support in all community level program implementation activities, such as SASA, EMAP, EASE etc. and ensure proper documentation is achieved in each of this activities.

Major Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the team to ensure that their full representation of all wards in our training activities.
  • In collaboration with IRC Local partners, community mobilizer and case worker plan and conduct prevention activities including but not limited to awareness raising campaigns and community sensitizations.
  • In collaboration with other team members, ensure that regular assessment is conducted to ascertain community view of our program and how best to ensure that the condition of women and girls are improve at community level
  • Work with the team to develop and implement GBV prevention information and strategies for information sharing
  • Work on ensuring involvement of men and youth in GBV activities, to promote safety of women and girls.
  • Support in community level training activities and ensure all the requirements are met.

Other duties and responsibilities

  • Lead mentorship and trainings to IRC and other NGOs outreach workers/volunteers to improve their skills and capacity to support and refer survivors to services and adhere to guiding principles
  • Maintain positive coordination and relationships with partner and other IRC sector staff.
  • Adherence to the IRC code of conduct (IRC WAY) that ensures transparency, services and accountability to beneficiaries and reports any abuse of beneficiaries by other IRC staff, including sexual exploitation and abuse in accordance with the IRC reporting procedures.
  • Compile and summarize weekly and monthly statistics and narrative reports and submit to officers.
  • Properly file all reports on trainings and meetings conducted.
  • Ensure that all community level obstacles to program implementation at community level are communicated in a timely manner and discuss for further action to address them
  • Ensure that all liquidations is done in a timely manner with relevant supporting documentations provided
  • Follow-up on trainings/Sensitizations/meetings   conducted to ensure implementation of action plans. 
  • Ensure that he/she works with respect to IRC security concerns, protocols and established policy inclusive of ensuring the safety of IRC beneficiaries from exploitive relationships.
  • Perform  any other duties as required by the supervisor from time to time
  • Adherence to the IRC Security Policy.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Must have attained at least University degree in social sciences/biological sciences from a recognized Institution.

Work Experience:

  • Teaching or community level engagementexperience, including experience working with women and girls preferred
  • Must have worked in the same or similar capacity

Demonstrated Technical Skills:

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients at all times is essential.
  • Excellent listeningand observation skills, including ability to create trust, support, respect and interact with survivors of all ages, background and diversity
  • Demonstrated commitment to women’s empowerment and protection throughcurrent/ previousvolunteer work in women’s group, girlsclubsor other relevant experience is an added advantage
  • Ability to facilitate training and sessions, including group support activities with women and girls.
  • Ability to keep records and write simple and basic reports of activities would be an added advantage.

Demonstrated Managerial/Leadership Competencies:

Ability to work as a member of a team essential

Positive and professional attitude, able to organize, maintain composure and prioritize work under pressure, work overtime when necessary and be able to coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.

Languages:

  • Ability to communicate in English, Hausa, Kanuri and local dialects spoken in the location

Computer/Other Tech Requirements:

  • Full professional competency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint, is an advantage
  • Ability to Travel: 10% of time if applicable
