The ICT Integration Services Technician will carry out his/her tasks within the Operations Support Division (OSD) of the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) in New York.

The Operations Support Division (OSD) of the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) in the United Nations is responsible for the delivery of applications that satisfy the requirements of the Departments of Operations Support (DOS) entities. OICT/OSD has implemented a range of systems to address the principal requirements of peacekeeping operations and to support and enhance the processes DFS undertakes. 

UNOPS has been requested to assist in the implementation of this activity. UNOPS is seeking to expand the Situational Awareness team to include resources that will focus on enhancing the existing situational awareness programme capacity. In particular, to focus on the design and development of components related to open source development. Whilst the resources will be based with the UNOPS Situational Awareness Team in United Nations ICT Facility in Valencia Spain, these services will be provided to UN – field Missions.

This is a position in UNOPS for supporting projects carried out for or in the United Nations Secretariat. The incumbent of this position will be a staff member of UNOPS under its full responsibility.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of UNOPS Senior Programme Manager and Senior Manager – Business Systems or designated officer in NY and within delegated authority of Solutions Architect in Valencia, the incumbent will be required to perform the following duties at the United Nations Information and Communication Technology Facility (UNICTF) in Valencia.

  • Assists in validating functional requirements integration;
  • Actively contributes ideas and approaches during design sessions with other developers;
  • Tracks emerging technologies and solutions for improvements;
  • Works with the team to Implement solutions for the integration of platforms and applications;
  • Performs Application Program Interface (API) Management for different tools;
  • Works on manual and automated testing techniques to ensure proper performance of deliverable functionalities, providing test cases and avoiding regressions;
  • Supports in the application deployment and maintenance of the infrastructure;
  • Supports in the development of innovative concepts that could be implemented in addition to, or as a replacement of, existing solutions;
  • Assists in creation of user and project documentation;
  • Contributes to the tracking and reporting times and efforts invested on the assigned tasks;
  • Performs other related duties as required
Impact of Results
The result of work of the ICT Integration Services Technician impacts directly on delivery of services that satisfy the requirements of the Situational Awareness Programm as well as the performance of the solutions implemented in the field missions and headquarters. It will also ensure proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education 
  • Secondary education is required; 
  • A university degree in information technology, computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics or related field is highly desirable;
Experience 

Required:

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Application Program Interface (APIs) management and Representational State Transfer (REST) services;
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ of experience on Java Enterprise Eddition (EE);
  • A minimum of two (2) years’s of experience working with message brokers (ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, etc) and integration and routing frameworks (Apache Camel or similar) for handling subscription/consumption messaging from persistent queues is required;

Desirable:

  • Experience working with web sockets;
  • Experience on Jboss;
  • Experience in PHP and JavaScript code writing;
  • Experience in multinational working environment;
  • Knowledge on Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence);
Language requirements 

  • English and French are the working languages of the UN. For this job opening, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required;
  • Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable
