UNRWA's human development goals

How can you make a difference? 

You will be joining a team of around 3000 staff in the Lebanon Field Office working to foster the human development registered Palestine refugees.••

The main responsibilities include:

Provide support to the Education Program in the implementation of EU-funded projects, in coordination with the Donors Relation Unit (DRU) and the Public Information office (PIO). Support the design and implementation of project communication and visibility plans as well as awareness and public information strategies and campaigns. Support the Education Programme to effectively communicate and coordinate with the Palestinian and Lebanese communities to facilitate the successful implementation of activities in the areas, camps and schools. Create and disseminate information supporting Education projects and UNRWA's work and activities. Identify and engage relevant NGOS and CBOs to support the implementation of activities, in line with UNRWA partnership strategy. Coordinate with relevant departments, field teams and beneficiaries to implement and facilitate communication and visibility activities.

Establish media contacts in Areas (as relevant) in close coordination with the Public Information Office. Support the Education Program to assist the Public Information office and the Donors Relation Unit in field visits of donors and partners to Areas, where relevant. Support in arranging, coordinating and facilitating community events and events related to Education in Emergencies (EiE) and Technical Vocational Educational Training (TVET), including focus group/community meetings and large scale recreational events, in close coordination with Public Information Office. Support the design and implementation of initiatives that will increase community awareness of project activities; for example, by arranging exhibitions of photos, maps and display items. Design and coordinate the procurement of visibility materials with the appropriate departments. Support in creating content and monitoring web pages and Facebook pages related to the project, in close coordination with Donors Relation Unit and Public Information office Proactively and regularly update the progress of project's activities, through meetings and documents, with the Communication Coordinator, the Project Managers and the Donors Relation Unit. Assist the Project Managers in providing visibility to the donors by ensuring quality implementation of visibility activities, organizing events and conducting interviews with beneficiaries for stories, videos, research and other public materials. Support in ensuring that all above communication and visibility initiatives, projects and activities are implemented in a timely and effective manner. Support in ensuring, where possible, that communication and visibility activities are effectively monitored, and that impact is properly evaluated.

Conditions of service•

Monthly basic salary: •Remuneration for this consultancy will depend on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate as determined by UNRWA salary scale for Individual Service Providers

Contract duration: •The duration of the consultancy is until 30 September, 2019 (extendable according to performance and availability of funds)

To qualify for this position, you will need:

Education

Bachelor degree from an accredited educational institution in media and communications, journalism, public relations, education, development studies, social sciences or any other relevant field.

Work

experience

Three years of experience in communication and/or public relations.

Proven experience in conceptualizing and designing of communications and outreach materials, and/or on social media.

Demonstrated experience organizing, managing and promoting large events, particularly in education.

Language(s)

•      Excellent command of written and spoken English and Arabic.

•     

You will also need to demonstrate the following competencies:

•        Excellent working knowledge of relevant computer applications

•        Very good communication skills;

•        Deciding and initiating action;

•        Relating and networking;

•        Planning and organizing;

•        Coping with pressure and setbacks;

Desirable Qualifications:

The incumbent may be required to:

•         Knowledge of UNRWA and the EU communication/visibility guidelines is a plus;

•         Experience working in refugee settings is a plus.
