APPLICATION: Senior Women Talent Pipeline - Political Affairs and Rule of Law

The United Nations welcomes you to the call for applications at the Director level for the Senior Women Talent Pipeline (SWTP). The SWTP is an initiative to build a competitive pool of readily-deployable senior candidates for civilian (i.e. non-uniformed) positions in UN Peace Operations (Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions). Candidates accepted to the SWTP are further supported by our team in the recruitment process for specific positions in UN field missions.
The call is open for candidates with demonstrated leadership experience and expertise in the following areas:
- Political Affairs (including Head of Office, Chief of Staff, prevention and mediation, and Peacebuilding Positions)
- Rule of Law and Security Institutions (including policing, mine action, DDR, SSR, Corrections and Justice positions)
We are inviting candidates to apply for one of the categories above, or both, should you feel qualified for both. All candidates will go through a competitive assessment process, which may include a written assessment and interview. Those candidates who meet the criteria will be included in the SWTP pool.
This call is focused on Director-level talent (D1 or D2 level in the UN Common System). Director-level positions are typically located in Mission headquarters, usually the capital of the country hosting the mission. Directors typically manage large, diverse, and multi-functional teams. Most Directors serve in non-family duty stations, so staff cannot bring their dependent family members (e.g. spouse, children) with them to the duty station. SWTP candidates should have a minimum of 15 years of professional experience in political affairs or rule of law and security institutions, although many successful applicants have more. Candidates should also have an advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in a relevant area. A first level university degree (e.g. Bachelors degree) in combination with 17 years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. Candidates should also be fluent in English. Fluency in Arabic or French, in addition to English, is highly desirable as many UN peace operations are located in Arabic-speaking or French-speaking countries.
Candidates accepted to the SWTP will receive support in the recruitment process for roster assessments and recruitment processes for positions in UN Peace Operations. Coaching and mentoring on issues such as leadership, substantive topics and the application process are offered as well. Do note that membership of the SWTP is not a guaranteed job offer; SWTP members will compete for positions in peace operations alongside other candidates.
