Duty Station [Sabha and Benghazi ] 

  Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an international non-governmental organization, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by vulnerable people affected by conflict and instability all over the world. Danish Demining Group (DDG) is a specialized unit within DRC that focuses on community safety programming. DDG strives to identify safety and security needs from the perspective of those living in conflict areas and to help them find non-violent solutions. These go beyond traditional mine action activities to include violence reduction, programming that specifically seeks to engage communities in addressing root causes of conflict and local safety and security challenges.  

 

DRC/DDG has been working in the region in Libya and Tunisia since 2011. In 2018, DDG started a project in border towns in western Libya to address community safety and resilience by implementing community dialogue and conflict management. DDG is expanding this type of programming to other cities of Libya focusing on community dialogue and the establishment of a national network of local security stakeholders, as part of a security sector reform project. 

  

About the job 

 The Community Liaison Officer, in coordination with project staff, supervised by the Supervisor, is expected to:

 

1. Contribute to direct implementation of day-to-day project activities 

2. Engage local stakeholders and community members in DDG programming

3.     Contribute to reporting and an active culture of organizational learning

 

 Your main duties and responsibilities will be: 

Programming

Monthly and daily work planning for implementation of project activities in your location

Contribute to ongoing conflict analysis and provide feedback to the Supervisor on changes in local conflict dynamics and possible impact on the programming

Directly participate in day-to-day implementation of project activities including facilitation of dialogue sessions 

Develop and maintain relationships with local stakeholders, including community leaders as well as security providers and civil authorities in your location

Mobilize key target groups for DDG activities

 

Operations: 

Arrange logistics in preparation of and during community dialogue sessions in coordination with support staff

Adhere to safety, logistics/procurement, HR and DRC/DDG Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

 

Reporting and Learning:

Contribute to regular reporting and documentation of project activities

Promote a culture of learning with the team and actively share challenges and lessons learned

 

 

   

About you :

At least 1 year of experience working with non-governmental organizations

Extensive demonstrated experience working with communities

Strong analytical skills

Strong organizational skills

High degree of computer literacy

Highly self-motivated and able to work autonomously

Well-connected and respected in the local community

 

 Moreover, we also expect the following:   

A university degree in social science, political science, or related field

Excellent writing and communication skills in English and Arabic

 Contract length: 31 December 2019 (renewable – pending on both funding and performance)
