The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

1. Role and responsibilities

The Education Officer is responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of the Education program in the North through organizing and delivering Education activities in line with NRC’s strategy and standards.

Generic responsibilities

  1. Coordinate the Education activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans
  2. Ensure adherence to NRC policies and donor requirements
  3. Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities
  4. Break down the annual operational plans into weekly, monthly and quarterly implementation plans
  5. Ensure that procurement, development and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures
  6. Supervise, train and develop the team
  7. Prepare periodic progress reports and other documents as required
  8. Investigate and facilitate introduction of new technology, methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of the activities
  9. Ensures that NRC’s related activities are implemented within NRC’s Protection mainstreaming guidelines and reports any breaches/concerns to the line manager and/or focal point for proper action.
  10. Ensure that all protection related detected cases are referred to the concerned referral focal point and to the related Protection Coordinator.

Specific responsibilities

  1. Participate in design and implementation of education assessments (i.e. teachers training needs, students’ participation, school management, parents/community involvement in education etc…)
  2. Participate in design of training programs based on needs assessments
  3. Participate to development of training module, both in English and Arabic
  4. Explain the project aims and objectives to volunteers/ animators and beneficiaries through daily contact and the organization of regular visits and meetings.
  5. Create a safe classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of children and youth both inside and outside the community centre
  6. Develop and maintain positive relations with refugee and host communities, local authorities and other local actors.
  7. Participate in development of communication tools (ex.: newsletters)
  8. Plan and prepare outreach work and conduct frequently outreach information and counseling sessions with identified communities.
  9. Organize awareness sessions for children and parents.
  10. Ensure that the projects implemented are realized in a timely manner and as per the objectives and activities in the project work plan.
  11. Ensure an integrative programming approach with other NRC Lebanon Core Competency Programs.
  12. Promote learning space activities and register children and youth for relevant programs
  13. Monitor and maintain quality education programs
  14. Monitor and supervise transport for beneficiaries (including accompanying beneficiaries on transport)
  15. Design forms, questionnaires and other templates as required.
  16. Maintain an up to date archive system (both in hardcopies and electronically).
  17. Report when required on activities and results to supervisors and relevant NRC staff.
  18. Collect and enter data for monitoring and evaluation processes e.g. data base, student daily attendance

2. Competencies

1. Professional competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
  • 2-3 years’ experience from working in Education field as a teacher or trainer in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Strong documentation, research and report writing skills
  • Proficiency in English & Arabic both written and spoken
  • Experience in designing and presenting training and participatory programs
