Organizational Setting

The FAO CSDS Security Service aims to assure a safe and secure operating environment and ensure continuity of operations in FAO Headquarters and Decentralized Offices, by protecting the integrity of premises and assets and the security of personnel and other subjects present in FAO Headquarters and Decentralized Offices from harmful acts and accidents or natural and technological hazards.

The position is located in FAO Headquarters


Reporting Lines

The Operational Specialist reports to the Chief of FAO Security Service, CSDS at headquarters and receives direct supervision and guidance from that unit.

Technical Focus

The Operational Specialist will assist in carrying out a review of official documents related to FAO Security Service and in the review and revision of the FAO Administrative Manual and FAO Handbook related to the FAO Security Service , with the objective of producing a simpler and more consolidated and coherent corporate policy framework and related procedures

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Carry out a review of the existing manual to extract procedural information to be inserted in the FAO Handbook
  • Analyze the data available online and in other communication platforms to be transferred to the Handbook.
  • Draft procedures and conduct consultations as required.
  • Prepare documentation, tables, reports, etc.;
  • Provide support to the Field Security Unit in liaison with the FAO Representations located in field offices to provide guidance on SRMM;
  • Monitor compliance to ensure that the new security mandatory course (BSAFE - Being Safe) is met in Headquarters and in the Decentralized Offices, review reports and draft follow up communications in liaison with Internal Communications in OCC.
  • Prepare reports on the status of the mandatory Security Risk Management Measures (SRMM) in the Country Offices.
  • Review data on SRM compliance collected in the COIN system by each Country Office and follow up regularly with those countries that do not meet the standards.
  • Draft tailored communications to be published on Intranet related to safety and security issues at Headquarters in liaison with Internal Communications (OCC);
  • Perform other duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
  • Advanced University degree (for COF.REG)/Bachelor degree (for PSA.SBS) in Political Science, Political economy, Communication, social science or a related field.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in communication
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of one of the other FAO languages Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish.

  • Extent and relevance of experience in the UN System is desirable.
