39 full-time Members will provide prevention/intervention services for 30 identified at-risk youth (3-12 graders) in partnering schools; providing meaningful mentoring relationships 1:1-3, academic assistance, attendance, and behavior interventions. Members will serve individually or in pairs at one of 30 partnering schools in Oceanside, Vista, Valley Center, Escondido, Carlsbad, & San Diego; Members receive extensive orientation, ongoing support/coaching, weekly/monthly meetings, attend/serve at events, professional training on topics relevant to service; Full-time only, 10-month commitment, 1700 min hours, serving M-F during school hours (8.5+ hrs/day; some days longer); some weeknight and weekend days. Looking for a mature, motivated, self-starter. Car required with Driver's license & insurance; Applicants selected required to meet all eligibility requirements and considerations to serve in the program. Member Living Allowance: First Year Member- $16,000, Second Year Member- $17,000. AmeriCorps members that successfully complete a Full-time 1700 hour service term approved through FY 2021 AmeriCorps earn a $6,345 Segal Educational Award and a $3,655 California For All Educational Award (CFA) (for a total of $10,000). Both educational awards are considered taxable income. CFA Award is contingent upon final budget appropriation by the state of California. Members may use the education award to pay for current educational expenses at an eligible institution, to repay qualified student loans, or to do both.

Qualifications: 

22 years or older, Associate degree or higher, computer proficient (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), own vehicle and valid driver's license, proof of U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency, preferred 1-2 years’ experience working with youth, Spanish-speaking a plus. Will be required to complete SDCOE and AmeriCorps applications, fingerprinting/background check, reference check, TB testing, submit university transcripts, and sign Term-of-Service contract. 

 

Salary 

$16,000/1st Year 

$17,000/2nd Year 

 

There is a $6,195 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award given upon successful completion of service.
