Your team

Within the Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, the HSS team provides maintenance and installation services and design support to projects that are related to ATCO workplace equipment, ATCO Systems, servers and storage equipment, and organisation of ICT in the MUAC Data Centre. The team also provides 24/7 standby service.

Your role

Your role will be to:



  • Manage the team in the execution of its tasks and ensure continued proficiency by setting targets, establishing training plans, ensuring regular evaluation of work output and adjusting targets where required;

  • Ensure all activities are performed in accordance with the existing safety, quality and security systems;

  • Lead and initiate projects with respect to hardware renewal, datacentre restructuring, ATCO console renewal and reconfiguration of operational rooms;

  • Supervise, coordinate and plan hardware adaptations and implementation;

  • Ensure short and medium term planning for architectural design and modifications in cooperation with managers and staff from the ENG/ICS Unit, the software development team and the architectural design team;

  • Ensure configuration, asset and spare part management;

  • Participate in work groups and task forces as required;

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual and 5-year budget planning;

  • Report on team statistics and figures (performance indicators, progress reports etc.);

  • Provide advice and support to the Head of Section with respect to future development of systems and requirements including drafting technical specifications and carrying out evaluations of calls for tender;

  • Ensure all technical and procedural documentation is available;

  • Establish, maintain and adhere to processes that protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the IT systems within scope, to the standards defined in applicable security policies;

  • Perform any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies


  • Completed university studies of at least four years in a relevant area

  • Internal candidates should check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.

  • In addition to the above, minimum 4 years of relevant working experience

  • Experience with ICT data centres

  • Experience with ICT hardware and virtualisation technology

  • Applications will be accepted from nationals of EUROCONTROL Member States only. At the closing date of the notice of competition, internal candidates must have completed their probationary period.

  • This is an appointment for a determined period of 5 Year(s). It could be extended up to a maximum of 7 years or converted into an undetermined contract. Before being established in the post, the external candidate will be required to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.

  • Internal candidates appointed to an established post or for an undetermined period: If successful, the person will maintain his/her current type of appointment yet be selected to fill this position under the conditions set above (determined period). At the end of this limited-term appointment, he/she will be transferred to the type of post and grade corresponding to the one he/she held before the determined appointment.

  • Internal candidates appointed for determined period: If successful, the person will continue his/her current type of appointment if compliant with duration limits laid down in Annex X of the Staff Regulations/General Conditions of Employment.

  • In case of reserve list: suitable candidates, however not selected to fill the post, will be placed on a reserve list for similar functions. The period of validity of reserve list is 1 year from the approval of the selection board’s recommendations.

  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade in the function group and to the type of post indicated in the vacancy notice, or, if a group of grades has been published, in principle at the basic grade.
