Background

EGAM — the European Grassroots Antiracist Movement was established in Paris, France in 2010 by human rights organizations from around the continent. Today, it has over 40 members throughout Europe.

EGAM recently had a transition in its governance to ensure a more active role of members in its day-to-day operations. This also requires a change in its executive team, and we are now looking for a new Executive Director to lead, in cooperation with the Board and member organizations, EGAM’s Paris-based team, its projects and campaigns. We are looking for a highly motivated person with experience in project cycle management, team management and human rights advocacy to assume this position and lead EGAM’s further development. We believe that the social and political context in Europe requires a strong and independent civil society. Thus, we wish to strengthen EGAM and its member organizations to be better equipped to respond to these challenges.

EGAM has a history of cooperation with numerous organizations, institutions and donors.

However, there has been a consistent underinvestment in EGAM’s organizational development, as in the past 9 years its capacities have been limited and the leadership prioritized its focus on campaigns and activities. We still wish to see EGAM focused on its program objectives butrecognize the need to invest in the organization’s own development. Consequently, we are lookingfor a creative and experienced manager to build on EGAM’s previous work and legacy tostrengthen its central team, its processes, its financial and administrative capacities. We also wish to emphasize here that the starting salary and benefits are relatively modest, but we believe there is a lot of potential for rapid growth, which should be reflected on what EGAM offers to its team too. The new Executive Director should thus be of entrepreneurial spirit and able to translate the potential for organizational growth into reality.
