Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.UN Women Jordan Country Office supports the Government of Jordan to implement global norms and standards on gender equality and women’s empowerment; promotes women’s economic empowerment; and implements a resilience and empowerment model for Syrian refugee women and vulnerable Jordanian women. The country office is implementing its Strategic Note for the period 2018-2022 and is prioritizing coherence and interlinkages across its projects and programmes under these three pillars. This requires effective implementation, monitoring and reporting on progress and results and coordination with key stakeholders in government, civil society and the international community.Reporting to the Programme Management Specialist, the junior project officer provides programme support to the effective management of UN Women programmes in the Jordan Country Office by contributing in the programme implementation and monitoring.  S/he supports the delivery of UN Women programmes by analyzing results achieved during implementation and supporting appropriate application of systems and procedures. She/he works in close collaboration with the programme team at UN Women Jordan to deliver on these results. 

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Project Implementation 

• Support timely implementation of activities in accordance with UN Women’s annual work plan;

• Provide support to UN Women implementing partners, as required;

• Maintain close communication with partners to ensure relevance and quality of activities and projects’ outputs;

• Support the unit in the organization of events, workshops, trainings; 

• Work closely with the Resilience and Empowerment Unit project support team for the smooth functioning of all operational activities related to activity implementation;

• Contribute to documenting project findings and lessons learned. 

2. Monitoring and Reporting  

• Contribute to the preparation and consolidation of quarterly results monitoring and the drafting of donor reports;

• Support the preparation and consolidation of quarterly progress and financial reports of project partners;

• Support the monitoring of project activities by conducting field visits and maintaining close communication with partners and consultants;

• Keep records and file all documents related to planning and implementation of activities in line with the office filing system;

3. Other/administrative support 

• Participate in meetings and events on behalf of UN Women, as required;

• Provide input to various tasks such as workshops, research, analyses and publications;

• Support with filing and ensure documentation as per UN Women rules and guidelines;

Required Skills and Experience

Education: 

  •  Master’s degree in gender, development, public policy, social studies, or a related field is required

Experience: 

  •  At least two years of relevant work experience in development and humanitarian programme/project implementation and management support
  • Experience working on gender equality and women’s empowerment
  • Strong knowledge on the working of international organisations including the UN

Language requirements:

  • Fluency in written and spoken in English and Arabic is required  

Fees and Schedule of Payments

The position will be remunerated based on a monthly rate. 

The successful candidate will receive his/her payment based on satisfactory deliverable and a time sheet duly approved by the UNWOMEN Country Representative.
