Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP)

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a Consultancy contract within the Private Sector Partnerships Services.

The Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) sits within UNHCR's Division of External Relations (DER) and is responsible for mobilizing resources from the private sector for refugees.

UNHCR aims to raise $1 billion from the private sector in 2025. In the “UNHCR $1 billion strategy” it is estimated that 40-60 million USD of that will be generated by new markets. Norway is one new market with substantial donation potential and is seen by UNHCR as a new market to pursue further. Towards formal setup, a Norway dedicated consultant should work out best options to register, build up network and to get first Private Partnership & Philanthropy (PPH) pipeline developed.

Organizational context

The Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Services works in different regions: Europe, MENA, Americas, Africa, and Asia, and further decentralizes at local levels. The Fundraising Consultant position would be part of PSP Europe team.

 

The position

We are seeking a dynamic and proactive team player, with a strong interest in fundraising supporting roles, to become a steady and reliable asset to the fundraising PSP Europe operation.

The incumbent will work in close collaboration with UNHCR offices and PSP colleagues including Sweden for UNHCR (S4U), UNHCR’s national partner in Sweden, and the Regional Manager for PSP Europe.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the direct coordination/supervision of the Snr PSP Officer (Regional Manager PSP Europe) and in close collaboration with, and regular visits to UNHCR’s National Partner “Sweden for UNHCR”, the incumbent is required to:

  • Assess best options to register UNHCR PSP in Norway and ensure the compliance with the relevant domestic law related to fundraising practice, fundraising licensing and data protection;

  • Develop and maintain close collaboration with S4U, including opportunities for engagements of S4U staff and capacity where applicable such including development of charitable entities Norway/Nordics for UNHCR options;

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a strategic plan for Private Sector Partnership in Norway in line with global and regional PSP strategies that can contain:

    • Assess options for an individual giving program which could include Internet-based

      online fundraising programs (and later also FtF, DM and/or DRTV in addition to other

      methods determined to be appropriate) and possible first start up of digital;

    • Oversee the development of digital channel and fundraising communication messages and materials for print and internet-based online outlets in order to maximize the loyalty of the donors for UNHCR;

    • Develop and support initiatives with private sector partners and donors (corporates,

      foundations and HNWIs), to obtain high value financial support for selected projects and programs, advocate and raise awareness for UNHCR and develop other engagements as appropriate;

 

  • In close collaboration with the Regional Manager PSP Europe and S4U, develop relations with Norwegian Postcode Lottery; and to build relationships with other senior foundation leaders and philanthropy networks, develop proposals and raise income where possible;

  • Maintain detailed records of engagement and plans, using relevant systems to monitor progress in the development of partnerships;

  • Perform any other related duties that may be required.

 

Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required
The ideal candidate will be required to have:

  • Bachelor degree and a minimum of 8 years relevant experience, or a Master degree and minimum 6 years relevant experience;

  • Fluency in English and Norwegian languages (written/oral);

  • Knowledge of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques, with private sector donors or key accounts;

  • Demonstrated record of success in generating significant funding commitments from private foundations and other private sector donors;

  • Demonstrated ability in grant and proposal writing, reporting and communication materials at appropriate levels for varied partnership development;

  • Proven expertise and up-to-date knowledge in PSP techniques such including direct marketing or monthly donor programmes such as face-to-face, digital fundraising and emergency fundraising

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals;

  • Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for projects and to complete them in a timely manner;

  • Ability to build effective relationships with prospective foundation donors, and UNHCR technical teams and fundraising staff remotely.

 

 

Location

The successful candidate will work from home.

 

Conditions

This contract is valid until end of the year, with possibility of renewal up until a maximum total duration of 11 months (calculated on full-time).
