Organizational Setting

The main aim of the FAO Country offices is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

FAO's mission is to work with the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic to help build a food-secure country, free of hunger and malnutrition, where food and agriculture contribute to improving the living standards of all, especially the poorest, in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner. The Organization's activities in the Syrian Arab Republic are fully integrated with the national priorities outlined in the national development plan and strategies of the country.

The FAO Representation in the Syrian Arab Republic is responsible for leading the administration and coordination of the implementation of the project with the technical and operational support of the FAO-RNE and HQ. The arrangements with respect to provision of administrative and operational support to the project at the various stages of project implementation, specifying responsibilities and reporting lines are stipulated in the project document

Tasks and responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representation in Syria, the direct supervision of the International Programme Officer in FAO Syria and in close consultation with the whole technical team in FAO Syria, the incumbent will\:

  • prepare project reports based on draft reports and information from project technical and operations staff, finalize (interim and final) reports and briefs, and submit them for clearance to FAO Syria;
  • provide support in improving the reporting system to ensure reliable, accurate and timely reporting at all levels and for all projects and programmes implemented by FAO in the context of the Syria programme;
  • maintain an up-to-date tracking list of progress and final reports for FAO projects and ensure the timely clearance of draft project (progress and final) reports;
  • perform other related duties, as requested.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
  • University Degree in the area of Communications, Linguistics, Journalism, Public Administration, International Development or a related field.
  • At least three years of relevant experience in reporting and programme management
  • Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish
