SCA Background

The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) has been working in Afghanistan since 1982, presently managing development Programmes concerning Health, Education, Rural Livelihoods and Community Governance, with a total annual budget of roughly USD 40 million. The total number of staff is around 5,500. During the last 10 years SCA has undertaken a change process moving from a primarily humanitarian service delivery approach towards more of a developmental role, putting increasing emphasis on capacity development, rights-based programming and outcome orientation. The mission of SCA is to empower individuals, communities and local organizations, primarily in rural areas and with particular focus on women, girls, boys and vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, so that they may participate fully in society and influence their own development. Scope of work:

The Physiotherapy Teacher is responsible to teach the student of SCA TIQRA project physiotherapy training school according to the approved three years physiotherapy course curriculum.

The Physiotherapy Teacher reports to the Physiotherapy Course Coordinator.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Minimum qualified from 3 years physiotherapy training, higher education in the field of physiotherapy is a strong advantage.
Minimum 3 years working experience as a physiotherapist, or physiotherapy teaching experience is required.
Fluency in Dari and Pashtu, written & spoken, and working level knowledge of English is an advantage
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and capacity to deal with different rural communities with varied political/socio-economic and educational background
Ability to take initiatives, and pursue work proactively without being intensively supervised
Ability to support colleagues and provide/receive constructive feedback
Computer knowledge at operational level, SCA uses Ms Office standard software
Ready to work, live and travel in an intricate and strenuous environment
To be an Afghan national

Main Responsibilities:

Act according to the policy and regulations of SCA
Keep updated with issues related to SCA and the environment where SCA operates
Promote an attitude of team spirit and a strong focus on quality
Develop good co-operation with SCA units, authorities, institutions and other NGOs
Do related job as delegated by the Head of the Programme

Technical and training Tasks

To teach the students of physiotherapy training school
Participates in curriculum development, preparation and implementation
Participates in student selection and recruitment
Assists with maintaining personnel files for all students including record of theoretical knowledge assessment
Monitors attendance of students and keeps attendance log.
Supports the students throughout the program and offers counselling on personal or study related problems
Assists the student to find answers to questions and apply theory to practice
Notifies Course Coordinator of any concerns related to student learning and ability
Participates in meetings, report writing, and dissemination of information related to the program as requested
Liaises with physiotherapy unit and other staff in the clinical areas to coordinate the clinical and theoretical aspects of the physiotherapy training.
Assumes responsibility for availability of resources used during the class
To ensure that the teaching quality is well maintained and according to the approved standards of GIHS.

To plan, deliver and evaluate theory lessons (as per monthly teaching schedule), Specific tasks include: 

Preparation of teaching schedule with support and approval of course coordinator
Preparation of teaching plan, implement, and preparing exam papers
Preparation of teaching materials according the physiotherapy curriculum
Delivery of training using various teaching methodologies in order to conduct effective training sessions which specific required on the methods of: Demonstration of handling techniques to students and Demonstration of the authentic approach with patients to students when is required
Exam planning and preparation (midterm and final exam) through consultation with the course coordinator
Control and record keeping of student attendance on a daily basis
Appropriate recording and filing of student’s exam results considering IHS format
Identification of the additional coaching needs of individual students
Allocation of work time to address individual coaching of all students,

·Organize clinical placement
·Prepare training opportunities and scheduling of learning sessions
·Find adequate cases for the students to practice

Ensure relevant resource provision for students:
Ensure that the students have uniforms (medical uniform)
Make sure the students prepare and carry necessary clinical assessment tools such as goniometer, reflex hammer, tape measure, clip boards   to the clinical placement area

Ensure clinical placement training is carried out effectively:
Manage the time to oversee all students equally
Ensure effective student communication with patients that is suitable for their needs
Keep records of the students’ performance on daily basis
Provide feedback to students on practical sessions by the end of each day
Provide hands on coaching and handling correction for students while working with patients
Provide immediate feedback to the students if the patient is at risk
Consider cultural and gender sensitivity as well as professional ethics to guide students for their clinical placement.

Managing of teaching materials and equipment used for teaching purpose 
Safekeeping of teaching materials especially anatomy models
Ensure students use the library properly and they return the books
Maintain electronic equipment’s and teaching materials such as multimedia are in sound working condition

Tasks of inter organizational relation

Promote gender equality, non-discrimination with regard to ethnic, political and religious background
Promotes good coordination with other SCA projects and the trainer is obliged to attend meetings, workshops or any seminars when organized at same province or at Kabul.

Attending internal and external meetings which are relevant to the work

Submit training document records which include student attendance sheets, examination results, clinical placement outcome/scores to the course coordinator 

Miscellaneous Tasks

To actively contribute to the successful development and good reputation of the SCA
To do any other duties assigned by the Physiotherapy Course Coordinator and Disability Project Manager.
