Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

BACKGROUND & RATIONALE

UNICEF is the lead agency in monitoring the well being of children, with a mandate to support countries in
collecting reliable data on children, as well as to track progress against internationally agreed targets
including the Sustainable Development Goals. In support of this work, the UNICEF Data & Analytics Section
maintains global databases on child wellbeing and makes these publicly available as a global public good.

The Section maintains UNICEF Data (http://data.unicef.org) as a repository of data on children, covering
topics ranging from health to education to child protection. The website is home to topical pages on over 30
issues affecting children which fall within UNICEF’s mandate. This serves as the public face of UNICEF’s work
on data for children. There is an ongoing effort to keep the content of the website up-to-date and engaging,
including through the development of new data visualization products to best display the data in UNICEF
global databases and makethem accessible to a global audience.

The Data & Analytics Section is also responsible for providing tailored technical support to countries and
regions in their efforts to monitor the well being of children, including in establishing trends and targets,
evaluating disparities among population groups, advising on new data collection efforts, and developing data driven
advocacy products for key events.
