VACANCY  ANNOUNCEMENT TEMPORARY APPOINTMENT OF PROJECT PERSONNEL

This position is located under the Office for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (CMO/HRM/GEW) of UNIDO which is responsible for promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women within the Organization, including the systematic gender mainstreaming of all policies, programmes and organizational practices. Under the overall direction of the Gender Mainstreaming Steering Board (GMSB), the Office is responsible for the implementation of the provisions of the policy on Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women promulgated in UNIDO/DGB/(M).110/Rev.2.

The Office, headed by the Gender Coordinator, inter alia coordinates the formulation, implementation, review and reporting of the four-yearly Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (GEEW) strategies, identifies trends, best practices and challenges in gender mainstreaming, serves as UNIDO’s focal point for gender equality and women’s empowerment within the UN system and externally, coordinates development of indicators and benchmarks, provides guidance and facilitates gender-related training for staff and promotes knowledge sharing. The Office also coordinates the Gender Focal Points Network and serves as the Secretariat of the GMSB. Main Functions

The Gender Expert is expected to play an important role in performing the above functions of CMO/HRM/GEW. The incumbent will report to the Gender Coordinator. He/she will closely collaborate on a day-to-day basis with Gender Focal Points in Headquarters and field offices, and facilitate their functions. The incumbent must be ready to travel on short-term missions as necessary. Under the supervision of the Gender Coordinator, and in close cooperation with Gender Focal Points of relevant Departments or Divisions, the Gender Expert will support the effective gender mainstreaming of UNIDO’s work by carrying out the activities described in the Gender Strategy and corresponding workplan of CMO/HRM/GEW. Main duties are outlined below: 1. As a subject-matter expert, secure all necessary inputs for accurate and timely reporting of UNIDO’s GEEW activities to UNIDO member states, Policy Making Organs, as well as for the annual UN-SWAP reporting. 2. Draft speeches and other relevant inputs to strategic documents on gender equality and women’s empowerment, in the context of UNIDO and UN system-wide processes. 3. Draft policy- and thematic- notes and contribute substantively to other knowledge products, and events on industrial development, gender equality and women’s empowerment issues. 4. Update tools, guidelines and activities, and develop and conduct trainings that build the capacity of UNIDO staff to effectively mainstream gender in their area of work. 5. Provide gender mainstreaming guidance and support to staff in incorporating gender in project cycle management processes and procedures. 6. Conduct other tasks as required.

Minimum Requirements

Education

Advanced university level degree in gender studies and/or international relations, development studies, economics, or other related field relevant to the functions described above.

Languages

English (Fluent), fluency and/or working knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.

Computer Skills

Field of Expertise

A minimum of five (5) years’ experience, at national or international level, working on gender mainstreaming at institutional and/or project levels; • Excellent drafting, conceptual and strategic skills, with ability to analyse, assess and propose appropriate measures with regard to a broad spectrum of gender-related issues; • Expertise in gender aspects of economic development and environmental issues, preferably with experience of gender mainstreaming in economic and environmental projects and related capacity building activities; • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with networks in relevant gender fields; • Familiarity with the United Nations system, UN processes and diplomatic relations an asset
