Description

Ground Control Segment (GCS) System Engineer in the Ground Control Segment Procurement Service, Galileo GS Procurement Office, Galileo Programme Department, Directorate of Navigation.

Duties

Reporting to the Head of Service, the postholder will discharge the following responsibilities and duties:

  • supporting the unclassified and classified GCS technical baseline evolutions (applicable requirements/standards) for the Galileo Exploitation Phase, Transition Phase and Galileo Second Generation (G2G) Ground Segment, focussing on the flow-down of the system baseline;
  • supporting the ground-to-space ICD definition, flow-down and implementation for the Transition Phase and G2G GS;
  • following up design activities at segment level (architecture, performance, segment, components, site security accreditation) paying special attention to the impact on and compliance with System requirements;
  • supporting the procurement and upgrade of the Galileo ground stations (S-band);
  • managing the obsolescence plan and resolution;
  • supporting other segments (space, operations, GMS, security) for the provision of expertise related to GCS interfaces and functionality;
  • providing technical input to the GCS-related procurement process, including ITT data-pack production, internal reviews and proposal evaluations;
  • interacting with other Galileo segments: maintaining efficient interfaces with other project disciplines, in particular System Engineering and Operations;
  • supporting ground segment procurement activities for G2G and the Transition programme;
  • coordinating for all the above with the relevant Engineering Divisions within the Ground Systems Engineering and Innovation Department of the Directorate of Operations.

Master’s degree in software engineering or aeronautical engineering.

Additional requirements

Applicants should have substantial experience in project phases C/D/E and a good background in ground system design, development, deployment and testing. System engineering experience in a relevant context and a sound knowledge of automation and virtualisation technologies are important.

For G2G activities, applicants are expected to be knowledgeable of new GSEG technologies and state-of-the-art methodology (e.g. Agile, CI/CD, DEVOPS). This will be used in the context of highly secured, complex, segregated and distributed ground segment, enabling faster deployment of evolutions while reducing CSEG development, operation and maintenance costs.

Knowledge of computer systems, programming languages, engineering standards and tools such as DOORs is required.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
