Organizational Setting


The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA's Major Programme 2, "Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection". This Major Programme comprises individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment and radiation technologies. These programmes are supported by laboratories in Seibersdorf, Monaco and Vienna. The Major Programme's objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes.

The IAEA Environment Laboratories Division consists of four laboratories, three of which are located in Monaco and one in Seibersdorf. The Division supports Member States in enhancing their capacity to use nuclear and isotopic techniques to understand marine, terrestrial and atmospheric environmental processes and dynamics, and to identify and address environmental problems caused by radioactive and non-radioactive pollutants and climate change.

 


Main Purpose


The respective printed and web-based communication products of the IAEA Environment Laboratories are in many cases out-dated and under-distributed. The purpose of the consultancy is to provide advice and support to the Environment Laboratories for updating and improving the integration of web-based communication sites and printed materials, including the division's respective websites, the MaRIS database, newsletters as requested, social media feeds and distribution lists. The consultancy would help produce new multi-media visibility materials necessary to present the Division in a way more appropriate to modern audiences and capture the wide range of outputs of the Division in a comprehensive manner.


Functions / Key Results Expected


  • Produce new communication products in consultation with the Director and Section Heads of the Division.
  • Develop, in coordination with OPIC, improved web-based information on\: the respective Peaceful Uses Initiative projects administered by the Division; the Collaborating Centres engaged by the Division; past and future video productions concerning the work of the Division.
  • Update mailing-lists used by staff in the Division to ensure web-based communication products realize the maximum distribution possible.
  • Coordinate with OPIC and the Division's IT manager the uploading of updates developed under this consultancy.
  • Review with the Director and Section Heads all web-based information in the Division in need of an update and coordinate the respective updates.
  • Draft new communication material as required.

Qualifications and Experience


  • University degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Marketing or a related field.

  • Minimum of three years of experience in professional communications, ideally with some exposure to the international field.

  • Experience in media relations and in social media is an asset.

  • Good Knowledge of written and spoken English essential. Knowledge of other IAEA official languages (i.e. Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) an advantage.


Remuneration

The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 170, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
