Company Description

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Job Description

Introduction

Do you have experience in the design and evaluation of Silicon Photonics devices and systems? Would you like to contribute to developing the next generation of optical data transmission systems for CERN’s experiments and accelerators? Seize this unique opportunity to explore novel Silicon Photonics device and system designs to meet the challenges of transmitting data in a harsh environment.Take part !

Functions

As a member of the Electronic Systems for Experiments group, you will be able to contribute to all stages of optical link development from conception to performance evaluation in radiation environments, by holding the following responsibilities:

  • Design and simulation of Silicon Photonics Devices and Systems
  • Packaging (inc. fibre-attach and mechanical design of fibre handling tools) of Silicon Photonics Devices
  • Design, schematic capture and PCB layout of test boards for Silicon Photonics Devices
  • Laboratory characterization of the performance of Silicon Photonics Devices and Systems
  • Evaluation of radiation tolerance of Silicon Photonics Devices and Systems
  • Supervision of students and fellows working on Silicon Photonics Devices and Systems
