Department

ILO Country Office for Argentina

The position is located in the ILO Country Office for Argentina, Buenos Aires (CO-Buenos Aires). CO-Buenos Aires provides high-quality, timely and integrated technical support and policy advice to national partners in the design, implementation and monitoring of initiatives aimed at advancing the Decent Work Agenda in Argentina. The ILO partners include the Ministry of Production and Labour, employers’ and workers’ organizations, and other government agencies to which the Office provides technical assistance, such as statistics offices, academic institutions and social dialogue bodies at various levels of government. The United Nations specialized agencies are also major interlocutors. 

The Office provides policy advice, tools, guidance and technical assistance to constituents with respect to creating more and better jobs and promoting more inclusive workplaces, and ensuring that policies, programmes and institutions are gender-responsive. CO-Buenos Aires produces research and analytical work to contribute to a better understanding of the trends shaping the world of work in Argentina and the role of decent work and productive employment in achieving the SDGs.

Learning area

Based on a qualitative and quantitative analysis of relevant information and data, the intern will assist in developing research and knowledge on issues related to employment, productive development, future of work, inclusive labour markets, working conditions and gender equality. In addition, the intern will cooperate closely with other CO-Buenos Aires’s areas of work, as well as with other UN agencies operating in the country.

Interns should expect to devote 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.

Required profile

Under the general supervision of the Specialist in Employment and Productive Development and the Officer in Inclusive Labour Market Institution in Argentina, the intern will be responsible for:

  • Conduct literature reviews and background research on issues related to employment, productive development, future of work, inclusive labour markets, working conditions and gender equality.
  • Compile and analyse relevant quantitative and qualitative information necessary for the assessment of labour market trends and policies.
  • Create, clean and update statistical databases; and construct labour market indicators to analyse trends.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, studies, working papers, briefs and specific documents that summarize major research findings.
  • Assist in planning and conducting technical meetings, seminars and workshops.
  • Prepare draft presentations and background notes for internal and external use.
  • Perform others task that may be assigned by the supervisor.
Education

Advanced university degree in economics. The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 1 years ago.

Experience

Experience in research on labour market and social issues would be an advantage. Experience in data collection and in preparing documents, briefings and articles. Knowledge of STATA would be an asset.

Languages

Excellent knowledge of Spanish and good knowledge of English.

Competencies

adaptable to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, good communication skills and be able to work in a team.

Selection process:

Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HRD), field offices will short-list applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department or field office within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster. 

If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the field office for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, e-mail, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.

Stipend:

As an intern in the field, you will receive a monthly stipend from the ILO based on the cost of living in the area of the duty station, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive the appropriate stipend per month. Your travel to the duty station will be at your own expense.

Insurance:

Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the field).
