Deputy Regional Director - Tunis
Amnesty International are seeking an experienced human rights strategist to join as a Deputy Regional Director for the MENA Regional Office based in Tunis.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the MENA Regional Director based in Beirut, the Deputy Director will coordinate the development and implementation of the sub-regional research and advocacy strategies in Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Morocco and Western Sahara, providing political advice to the RD, undertaking field travel and managing work and critical human rights situations, as well as regional thematic issues. You will lead a multifunctional team of research and campaigning staff to develop and deliver effective research, campaigns and communications plans. You will guide expert researchers to deliver powerful regional and country research reports and other publications that inspire people to act. You will manage campaign staff, working with them to design campaigns that mobilize Amnesty members globally and regionally to take actio n on human rights. You will represent Amnesty International in the field and elsewhere, including with senior government officials, media, peer organizations and other audiences.

At the same time, as one of five Deputy Directors of the IS MENA office, you will work closely with the MENA RD to manage the regional operation, project manage and motivate and inspire regional staff.

This position is advertised as an 18-month contract due to organisational policy however the post is permanent in the MENA structure.

ABOUT YOU
A politically astute, experienced, inspirational and resilient leader, you will bring your expert knowledge and experience as a leader in human rights, capable of influencing the direction of Amnesty International’s impact within the region. You will have a sound knowledge of regional political and social contexts that comes from living and working in the region; with knowledge of international human rights law and regional human rights frameworks you will have a balance with your awareness of activism, membership and constituency building, fundraising and media visibility within the region. You’ll be a strategic thinker who can create plans, manage staff directly and in a global matrix, allocate resources and maintain a strong network of government, NGO and media contacts. You’ll have the communication, presentation and advocacy skills needed to represent AI to a variety of audiences, along with the credibility to influence them and effect positive change. You’ll be fluent in Arabic, French and English.
