Junior Researcher/Project Manager (div/f/m)

 

      -part-time (75%)-, starting February 2020

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Berghof Foundation is an independent, non-profit organisation working to prevent political and social violence and to achieve sustainable peace around the world. We have over 45 years of experience in peace support, conflict transformation research and peace education. Headquartered in Berlin, the NGO is run by a diverse team and works with local partners around the world.

 

As a Junior Researcher, you will be part of our Research team. You will work closely with a (Senior) Project Manager and our in-house senior expert(s). Your main responsibility will be to support the management and implementation of a three-year project funded by the European Commission on comparative perspectives on the prevention of violent extremism in the MENA and Balkans. The Berghof Foundation is the consortium lead, and you will be contributing to organising work packages on overall project coordination, implementation and dissemination, policy impact and stakeholder dialogue. You will also be able to participate in thematic discussions within the organization and either cover logistics or liaise with the logistics personnel assigned to the project.

The position will be based in Berlin for a period of 36 months.

 

 

 

The main tasks of the position include:

  • *       Support the overall implementation of the project
  • *       Drafting and editing/Proofreading of project documents and partner papers upon request
  • *      Help to accompany and document major project activities
  • *       Draft thematic and conceptual inputs for the project team, partners and project consultants
  • *       Provide background research and literature reviews
  • *       Provide input for communication with and reporting to the EU, led by the project manager together with a project office partner organisation
  • *       Support the implementation of Stakeholder Engagement and Policy Dialogue activities
  • *        Provide administrative support (travel organisation, documentation, expense claims), potentially in cooperation with a logistics officer
  • *        Support knowledge management and contribute to the production of project materials (website texts, briefing papers, reports, social media draft content).

Qualifications:

  • *       Master in a relevant field, such as peace and conflict studies, international relations, security studies or political science; first work experience is a bonus
  • *       Knowledge of conflict transformation, or violent extremism/ radicalisation research
  • *       Experience in one of the regions researched is an asset
  • *       Fluency in English is essential, Arabic or French proficiency would be a strong asset
  • *       Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently

 

Additional skills:

  • *        Strong writing and coordination skills
  • *        Empathy for working with diverse sets of actors, both in countries researched as well as among the consortium partners
  • *        Ability to work under time pressure
  • *        Some travel in the Western Balkans and MENA region as well as within Europe will be possible
