About DRC   
DRC began operating in Kenya in 2005 with assistance to refugees and displacement-affected communities via implementation of protection and livelihoods activities. DRC works in Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps, as well as in Nairobi to assist urban-based refugees, and in Mandera County implementing a cross-border resilience programme In Kakuma, DRC’s programme supports refugee youths and adolescents with life skills, resilience, training and scholarships alongside livelihood and vocational skills development.  DRC has acquired implementing partner status of UNHCR and is implementing protection related activities in Kalobeyei camp – which is a new camp opened near the Kakuma refugee camp.  Overall purpose of the role
The ICT Trainer will be directly in charge of delivering timely and high-quality ICT skills to selected trainees from host and refugee community at the established ICT training center. The training will be based on a developed and modified curriculum for the acquisition of Basic and Advanced ICT skills.

Responsibilities: 

  • Sensitization and mobilization of beneficiaries for ICT training and related activities. 
  • Prepare Schemes of work/Work plans, Lesson plans and lesson notes, Record of work covered, Learners’ evaluation and progress records. 
  • Conduct Basic and Advanced ICT training that will be taking place at the ICT training center.  
  • To provide one-to-one training support and device different methods of delivering content taking consideration of the slow learners.
  • Maintaining a daily class register and an up-to date students’ database at the center.
  • To administer continuous assessment tests and maintain records of students’ performance based on the agreed guidelines. 
  • To monitor, evaluate and review the quality and effectiveness of training.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports of ICT training as per the reporting period provided 
  • Support online related program at the ICT center i.e.  Coursera, online jobs etc. 
  • Ensure that students understand and follow the rules and regulations in order to maintain high level of discipline.
  • Provide guidance and counseling to students to nurture development of the ICT related ideas.
  • To keep up to date with relevant systems, software and where appropriate programming languages. 
  • Custodian for all I.T equipment’s at the center i.e. MUST keep track of equipment movement in and out of the center.
  • Regular maintenance of all IT equipment’s including software installation.
  • Manage DRC computer lab at the youth Center. 
  • Upgrade computer hardware and software at the center as needed.  
  • Tracking software licenses in operation and ensure they are timely updated.  
  • Keep an up to date inventory of all IT equipment at the center 
  • Manage bandwidth and LAN configuration. 
  • He/she shall supervise IT incentive staff at the center.

Experience and technical competencies: 

  • Comprehensive computing and programming capabilities. 
  • Possession of graphic design skills will be an added advantage.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and facilitation skills. 
  • Good skills in LAN and WAN networks
  • Relevant IT Training experience.
  • Good troubleshooting and maintenance skills
  • A thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Good technical skill in both hardware and software
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar position working at a reputable organization

Education: 

  • Degree/Diploma in In Technical Education-Computer study option, Computer Science, IT or any other relevant training.
  • Having a TSC number will be an added advantage 
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili is essential

Conditions  

  • Contract: Standard contract is 18 months. However, initial contract will run up to December 31st 2019 and will be renewable based on performance and availability of funds. Salary and other conditions are offered in accordance with DRC’s Terms of Employment. 
  • Availability:  November 2019 
  • Duty station: The position will be based in Kakuma Refugee Council
