Job Description

As part of the Economic Recovery and Development (ERD) program, the IRC is implementing a project entitled “Promoting Economic Well-being for Urban Refugees and Vulnerable Community Members in Kampala,” which seeks to enhance the financial inclusion of urban refugees. The project’s objective to improve access to formal financial services and employment opportunities among urban refugees in Kampala. As part of this project, the IRC is supporting village savings and loan associations (VSLAs) that include both refugees and local Ugandans in various divisions of Kampala.

The IRC now wishes to recruit the services of an experienced consultant to train these groups, organized in 6 clusters each with a maximum of 120 participants, in “business/enterprise skills modules” as part of this initiative.

Scope of Work

  • The consultant will train 6 clusters of refugee VSLA members, with a maximum of 120 members per cluster, in in Central, Makindye, Kawempe and Rubaga divisions of Kampala. Specifically, the consultant will:
  • Draw up an implementation plan and meet with IRC ERD team to harmonize the plan and organize the necessary resources.
  • The trainings may run concurrently in all the locations within the specified period or as shall be agreed.
  • Prepare a suitable training curriculum/manual including both business/entrepreneurship and requisite life skills modules.
  • Conduct an orientation with selected groups in order to adapt the training content.
  • Train the 6 clusters in business/entrepreneurship and life skills, using the developed entrepreneurship and life skills manual, within a specified period that shall be agreed upon, with each cluster taking a maximum of 3 days.
  • Participate in review meetings with the IRC to evaluate the possible areas of concern after every training session.
  • Submit a comprehensive final report.

On the other hand, the IRC will;

  • Support the trainers in mobilization of the 6 clusters for the trainings.
  • Meet with the trainers to agree on the implementation plan and organize the necessary resources required for the trainings.
  • Avail ERD Officers and Community Based Facilitators (CBFs) to work with the trainers where required.

Deliverables

The main deliverable is a comprehensive training report submitted in soft copy (Word docs and PDF formats) which shall include;

  • Customized training manual in English.
  • Training notes and delivery plan, both hard and soft copies).
  • Photos taken during the trainings.
  • Training evaluations and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or related qualifications in business/ enterprise development and management.
  • Experience in delivering business and life skills trainings for multi-cultural vulnerable communities
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering such trainings using participatory and other practical methods.
  • Ability to conduct such trainings in Luganda, Kiswahili, and or French is an added advantage.

Time frame

  • Proposal for expression of interest must be received by the IRC in sealed envelopes in the above-mentioned IRC offices no later than 21st November 2019, 4:00PM East African Standard Time.
  • Submitted offers will be opened and reviewed by the IRC on 29th November 2019, 10:30AM East African Standard Time.
  • This assignment is expected to start by 9th December 2019 and end by the 20th December 2019. Follow ups will be done by the IRC ERD team.
