Description of task

Under the general supervision of the Chief of the MINUSCA‘s Justice and Corrections Section, and the direct supervision of the regional Judicial Affairs Officer, the UN Volunteer Judicial Affairs Officer Associate will undertake the following tasks:

Gather information and report in the area of activity of CAR’s justice and rule of law institutions and on the activity of MINUSCA in the same field;
Support technical level coordination with other components of the mission aiming at advancing justice related issues of practical concern;
Support liaison between MINUSCA and the CAR rule of law institutions and provide technical assistance to these institutions;
Work with local and international actors represented in CAR for the provision of support to the justice sector. Report daily and weekly on rule of law related matters of major concern to the Criminal Law and Judicial Advisory Service (CLJAS) and MINUSCA in general;
Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions on a variety of issues relating to the justice sector in CAR in general on the basis of the applicable law, international law and international human rights law;
Facilitate knowledge building and knowledge sharing;
When working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-)governmental counterparts, the incumbent is strongly encouraged to set aside dedicated time for training, coaching, mentoring and capacity development;
Performs other related duties as required by the supervisor.

Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:

Work experience of at least 3 years in the practice of law, either as a magistrate, in Government, or in a law firm, with experience in criminal law matters.
