This position is located in the Policy Strategy & Governance Division, Office of Information and Communications Technology in New York. The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) provides enterprise-wide oversight of ICT programmes, budgets and decision-making to ensure alignment with the Secretariat's overall ICT strategy in support of the Organization's mission.

This is a position in UNOPS for supporting projects carried out for or in the United Nations Secretariat. The incumbent of this position will be a staff member of UNOPS under its full responsibility.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of UNOPS Senior Programme Manager, the Communications Senior Officer – Digital and Content will be reporting directly to Programme Manager of UNTIL Programme and will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Connect field missions with offices of the NYHQ in order to expand collaboration opportunities and knowledge sharing.
  •  Optimize operations and project implementation between respective units by introducing new coordination and communications tools and manage them. (briefs, meetings, excel reports, share drives, multimedia presentations and other)
  • Support OICT communication strategy at all levels, develop various materials, campaigns etc. as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Analyze existing communication materials and actions taken and based on discovered needs and gaps support the design of the new materials and communication action plans.
  • Monitor the effectiveness and success rates of communications and report findings to the management.
  • Perform other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above
Impact of Results:
The result of work of the Communications Senior Officer – Digital and Content impacts directly on delivery of services that satisfy the requirements of the Department as well as the performance of the services implemented in the DPO and Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, Economic Commissions, Offices away from Headquarters, and Headquarters. The incumbent will also ensure proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring activities for all global locations are in line with the overall business targets and UN policies, rules and regulations.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

  • Advanced University Degree (Masters or equivalent) in Communications or Public Relations or another related field;
  • A first level university degree with an additional two years of  relevant experience maybe accepted in lieu of advanced degree.

Experience:

Required

  • A minimum of two years of progressive professional experience in graphic designing;
  • A minimum of two years of progressive professional experience in  writing of various communications materials.

Desirable

  • Experience working with globally-dispersed project teams and working in a multi-project environment;
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite

Language:

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat;
  • For this position, fluency in English is required;
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
